Film Stars in the Snow

Date walked: 15/01/2013

Time taken: 4 hours

Distance: 14km

My pal Terry and I decided to go for a hike on Tuesday and planned a trip up to Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales. Unfortunately the weather put paid to that, far too risky down some of those roads and didn’t want to spend the evening stuck in a snow drift!

So we decided to go shopping around York!!! Ha ha no chance!, we headed for them hills on the North York Moors. To ensure that we would have a safe journey and good roads we decided to walk the Hole of Horcum which is midway between Pickering and my old home town of Whitby.

We arrived just in time for a blizzard to try and change our minds, however in 10 minutes or so weather had cheered up a little, but didn’t look promising! There is now a pay and display up here, and even on a day like this i donated my 2 quid to the National Parks in a frozen ticket machine.

Good Old Terry then got his IPhone out and declared there is lots of sunshine up here today, I don’t know where it was thoughwe didn’t see any all day! The route was a simple one heading off around the edge of the Hole of Horcum and dropping into the bottom after Dundale pond. We decided not to travel as far as Levisham due to the conditions and the fact that the path down into the valley from Levisham was sure to be a bog fest.

We got started and Terry had left his wallet in the car so we having walked a good half mile we had to venture back in the brilliant sunshine :( Not really just snow and a cold wind.

As we made our way back we were asked by a lady taking photographs if we had finished our walk as she was wanting to take photos of idiot adults hiking in the snow.

So after picking the wallet up we started back and the photographer was busy taking photos from or rear. Unbelievably the photograph is on the the AOL web site at

A great days walking and a pint to look forward to on the way back to York

Some pictures I took on the way round and believe it or not they are all in colour.

Cheers
