A good climb today.
OK so I parked at grey mares tail car park at murrays monument. Moved up the path towards the waterfall with the water to my right at this point, after taking in the fall I moved further up the track towards the monument. I then joined the southern upland track and took a right at the junction heading towards black loch.
Once at black loch take the track to the left keeping the loch to your right, shortly after you should soon see a chonical statue. Keep on this track till you come to a quarry. Millfore summit will be directly infront of you, jus look up.
There is probably a million ways up to the summit but take your pic, I claim to be a hillwalker so I decided to tackle it head on from the quarry. I moved up a track of felled trees nicely made by the jcb, stayed on this till I came to a fence running left to right, cross this and keep to right of stream. I made the decision to stick to the right to avoid the water obstacles and that it looked like the more challenging ascent.
Eventually, reaching the summit and take in that cold air and endless views. Time to start the descent, ofcourse you can go down the proven route but again I felt I wanted to take a different route down. I chose to go down the right side of the hill from the path I chose to come up, you can see the rest of the track that adjoins the path from the quarry, so I started heading down and soon found myself almost on a cliff edge. Dont panic I found a way down. Took a bit of negotiating and scrambling but I got down and headed for the path.
Follow this path all the way back to the loch and a few 100m will be a goat trail all way back to the car park
Enjoy!
