Bellabeg forest walk no. 1

1. Take the turning signed 'Lost' on the west side of the river in Bellabeg (not the one signed 'Lost Gallery'). There is a parking area on the right hand side. From here walk along the pavement on the main road towards the houses, passing the war memorial and crossing the bridge over the river Don. Pass the shop and continue along the road crossing to walk on the grass verge on the left side of the road. Soon a sign is reached with a map of the walk, turn left to climb a steep path alongside the fence.

Bellabeg forest walk no. 2

2. Do not follow the waymarkers which after 50 metres direct you to the right, as this route is blocked by fallen trees. Instead continue along the fence. There are good views over Bellabeg on the left. Soon a track is reached, turn right along this.

Bellabeg forest walk no. 3

3. The track descends gradually, passing a fenced felled area on the left and two chalets on the right. Pass a metal vehicle barrier and continue ahead until a junction is reached with houses to the right. Bear left here heading uphill. Where the main track curves right into the trees, stay next to the fence on a faint track which continues to climb. Ignore a stile passed on the left and continue ahead until a forestry track is reached.

Bellabeg forest walk no. 4

4. Turn left to follow this along the top of the fenced area. There are good views over Donside and the hills beyond. Just before the track re-enters the plantation, ignore a fainter track on the right and continue ahead. The dense trees are left behind at a turning area with sweeping views. Double back to the left here to continue downhill.

Bellabeg forest walk no. 5

5. Keep a close eye out for the waymarked path back down next to the fence. Follow this back to the road and turn right to return to Bellabeg. This walk could be combined with the Roughpark Walk and/or a exploration of the Doune of Invernochty, the large mound where a castle once stood.
