1. There is a large free car park just behind the Duke of Gordon Hotel, off Gynack Road, in the centre of Kingussie, where there are also toilets and information about the local path network. From here return to the road and turn left to head uphill to pass the Vincent Hospital ignoring a path down to the river. Just before the car park for Kingussie Golf Club and Caravan Park turn right at an interpretation board for the Gynack Mill Trail to cross a bridge and head up steps on the far side. Turn left along the road and follow it, passing onto the private road and crossing part of the golf course at one point.
2. There are good views of Creag Bheag over to the left. Follow the road alongside the Gynack Burn until the bridge just before Pitmain Lodge is reached. Don't cross the bridge, but follow the track to the right to continue following the burn upstream. Ignore a track forking off to the right and at the end of the trees go through a gate to continue along the track across moorland.
3. The stony track climbs gently across heathery ground, passing through another gate. Keep on the main track, ignoring a smaller track that leads to a row of grouse butts. It takes a wide curve to the right before climbing more steeply to pass Green Bothy, a grouse-shooters' hut.
4. The views back over Strathspey improve as the track climbs to the summit of Beinn Bhreac at 843 metres where there is a small cairn and wide views over the wild Monadhliath. The track continues north west, passing a large stone, to dip down before climbing and then heading west to reach the summit of Carn an Fhreiceadain at 878 metres.
5. Just downhill to the west is a tall cairn with good views over Strathspey and the south. Despite the fact that this is a managed grouse moor with a track to the top, amongst the sheep and hares looking at the endless Monadhliath it does have a proper wild feel. Follow the track as it starts to descend and curves left to head south down towards the Allt Mor which runs into the Gynack Burn.
6. The track passes over a bridge and then climbs up the far side of the gully and continues downhill, passing a stand of firs. There are good views of Creag Bheag ahead with Loch Gynack in front. Go through a gate into the woods and soon Pitmain Lodge is reached. Turn left to pass in front of the house and cross the bridge. Head straight ahead and follow the road back down towards Kingussie. Just before the first house is reached look out for the green sign and take the path to the right down the steps to cross the bridge. On the other side turn left to follow the road downhill back to the car park.
