Meall Dubh is the highest point of the moors between Glen Garry and Glen Moriston. In recent years a windfarm has been constructed across the higher slopes. Most guidebooks describe an ascent from the west, but it is much easier and quicker from the north.

Other routes and challenges
The above route is the most straightforward, making maximum use of the windfarm tracks. These can be avoided on a route from the A87 road to the west, but this is rough, boggy going. There are further tracks on the southeast flank of the hill; an ascent from the Loch Lundie area may be feasible.
