Pronunciation
and meaning
1. Turn off the A87(T) about three kilometres west of Invergarry, crossing White Bridge over the River Garry. Turn right once over the bridge. Don't go right into the Ciste Dubh car park, instead following the track round to the left and passing a house before reaching the Allt na Calliche car park (with interpretative sign) on the left (note that it is not possible to drive to this point via Mandally). The route described is the Allt na Calliche long path, waymarked throughout in yellow; there is also a shorter blue route which visits the waterfall. Begin the walk by continuing along the track, turning right at the fork. The track passes through a gate; look out for the waymarker for the path which goes off to the left soon after. This path soon forks; our yellow route crosses the bridge over the stream.
2. The path begins to head gently uphill, passing a viewpoint for a minor waterfall. Further on the path reaches another viewing point, this time for a much more impressive waterfall. Don't continue uphill directly beyond this viewing point, but follow the waymarked path which heads briefly to the right here. Soon you will reach a junction; the shorter blue route turns right to return to the start from here. Our longer yellow route goes left and begins to wind uphill through the woodland above the falls. It passes a couple of seats part way up, close to the stream, before eventually emerging on a track. This is the highest point on this walk.
3. Turn left along the track. This heads very gently downhill, and has some open views over the lower Glen Garry countryside. Continue on the track as it winds left and right, passing through a gate and high above a house before finally bending right to reach a surfaced lane. Turn left along the lane, passing the house and crossing a bridge. Turn right once over the bridge to return to the car park.
