1. From the car park head along the track away from the information board and into the trees. After a short while take the left hand fork and head gently uphill following a marker post. This woodland is owned and managed by the local community who have encouraged the abundance of birdlife and other wildlife including a large selection of ferns. Eventually a white marker post is reached, turn right here to head downhill. The path coming down from the left is an additional circuit which can be started from just behind the information board in the car park, however many trees were felled in 2003 when gale force winds reached speeds of 110 miles an hour and the route can be difficult to find amongst the debris.
2. Follow the green marker posts as the path winds downhill through birch, holly and pine trees. A very short detour to the right takes you to a picnic bench with a fantastic view down over Loch Carron and the ruins of Strome Castle and the houses of Stromemore on the far side. Continue on the path, which is paved with stone steps for some of the way, until a track is reached. Cross this to continue downhill on the path on the far side.
3. Looking straight ahead, above the rhododendrons that line this part of the route, the Applecross mountains can be seen dominating the view. The path curves around to start heading up the loch and passes a bench. Continue on the path which turns a sharp bend back on itself at a red marker post. At the next junction turn left downhill following the red marker post.
4. The path continues downhill, and is very green and mossy in places. It emerges at a bench with a great view over to Castle Bay on the other side of the Loch. The path narrows and meanders along with glimpses down to Stromferry. Before long the path turns back on itself and starts to climb a series of stony steps.
5. In this densely wooded section, it can be quite dark and it is necessary to keep an eye out for the path. Where a fallen tree has blocked the route keep right to regain the path with the red marker post. Soon this path emerges onto the main track, turn left here and just before the car park is reached turn left down a path marked with a yellow marker post. This leads to a picnic bench and further along a seat with a view over Stromeferry. From the rear of the seat head directly uphill to regain the track at the car park and the start of the walk.
