1. Park at the Forestry Commission car park just north of Contin off the A835 (toilets open in summer). From the southeast corner of the picnic area follow the green, red and blue marked trail going away from the river signed Forest Walk. This route is waymarked in green. The route climbs through birch wood and then crosses straight over a track and continues through pine woodland. The path crosses another track, keep following the green waymarkers.
2. The path soon reaches a third track which is sign posted for Garve and Strathpeffer in opposite directions (this track is an excellent cycle route), bear right, cross the track and follow the sign for View Rock. Walk through silver birch and go straight across a new forestry track (not waymarked) and keep following the clear path through an area of felled trees before re-crossing the track to head uphill and eventually re-entering the pine forest and passing a wooden seat near an old stone wall.
3. Continue on the path until a fork, detour left to reach View Rock, an exposed slab with great views over the Ross-shire countryside and Loch Achilty. The view is better if you continue to another rock just beyond. After the view point return to the main path and continue on the green marked trail slightly downhill. Watch for roe deer in the open areas.
4. When you reach a wide track turn left, follow the green waymarkers which further on bear left onto a narrower route. This reaches another path, turn left signed for Contin, and after a large boulder this emerges onto a track. Keep left here, signed Contin, and eventually you will meet the green marked path to the right that you came up earlier in the walk. Turn right and head downhill back to the car park crossing over the forestry tracks on the way.
