Walk Description

Stage 1

Start from Keith Square (Reidhaven Square) where there is ample parking and the main bus stop. The town centre and shops are mainly down Mid Street but this route heads in the opposite direction turning left at the roundabout as you look up the Square, to follow Mid Street to the end. Here turn left and then cross the A96 with care and follow the road opposite keeping right at the fork.

Stage 2

Follow Old Den Road and just after the last house take the path on the left uphill. Keep right at the fork and follow the path through lovely mature woodland. Keep on the main path which soon heads high above the A96 and then comes down to run alongside the Den Burn.

Stage 3

After passing a seat, the path heads uphill, turn right at the green sign (Falls of Tarnash and Dunnyduff) part way up and follow the path down to the green bridge over the Burn. The wide path continues to follow the Burn upstream as it enters Dunnyduff Wood. At a junction detour to the right to cross the bridge and head up steps to get a view of Tarnash Falls.

Stage 4

From the Falls return to the junction and turn right to head up steps and soon into pine forest. At the junction at the top turn left over a bridge and then keep straight on ignoring the second path to the left to keep level through the trees. The path narrows and can be muddy in places. After a small bridge emerge from the trees to head to the right along the edge of the woods. Keep on the well made path and soon a viewpoint with a seat is passed on the left - here there is a good view over Keith with the prominent dome of St. Thomas's Chapel visible.

Stage 5

The route heads back into the trees eventually descending steps to reach a track, turn left downhill and after a gate a minor road is reached. Turn left and follow the road for a short distance until a bend. Here continue straight ahead onto a forestry path which emerges back onto the road where the Burn of Drum runs under the Bridge of Dunnyduff. Turn right to follow the road uphill to the outskirts of Keith, following the signs for Keith Square to return to the start.
