Garmony Point and Fishnish

This pleasant - though sometimes muddy - walk follows the flat coastline north from Garmony Point, giving a chance to watch out for otters. The walk loops through the forest near Fishnish, overlooking the ferry to Morvern, before returning the same way.

Walk Description

Stage 1

The walk begins from the signed forestry car park at Garmony Point. There is a picnic area here and excellent views out over the outflow of the Allt Achadh na Moine into the Sound of Mull. Begin the walk by the signpost ('Garmony to Fishnish') and follow the red waymarkers. These lead across a boardwalk and then a footbridge over the burn. The path is close to the main road but soon swings to the right and crosses the grassy pastures towards the sea.

Stage 2

Continue close to the shore, with more boardwalks helping to avoid boggy sections. The path crosses the back of a small shingly bay. Beyond the route passes a wooden bench and heads through mixed woodland.

Stage 3

There are good views across the Sound of Mull to Lochaline and the Morvern peninsula. Continue past more benches to eventually reach a gate giving access to a forestry plantation. The path eventually emerges on a forest track. Turn right here and follow the track until the barrier and tarmac road. Over to the right here is a car park and picnic area which is perhaps worth a visit for the view of the Fishnish-Lochaline ferry; you could also extend the walk by including the Fishnish circular.

Stage 4

Otherwise, continue briefly on the tarmac road until a link path heads into the trees on the left. This soon leads to another forestry track - turn left here and follow this as it curves through the woods and rejoins the outward route where the path met the track. Turn right to begin the walk back to Garmony Point.
