This easy-going walk takes you into the heart of the mountains of Mull without any climbing required. Follow the shore of Loch Ba to Knockantivore keeping an eye out for sea eagles and deer.

Parking area at Knock. Map and directions.
There is a small parking area just off the B8035 at Knock, turn off the road at the very sharp bend and the parking is on the track leading to River Lodge. Start the walk by following the track with the double gates and the Benmore Estate sign heading south through the trees. The track soon reaches Loch Ba after passing the driveway to Benmore Lodge on the left.
As you follow the edge of the loch, the slopes of Beinn Ghraig loom up on the right hand side. As well as Loch Ba, this track is also the start of a couple of through routes which cross the mountains on high passes. Cross the cattle grid and continue on the track.
Loch Ba is a popular haunt of local sea eagles so you may well catch sight of the huge white-tailed birds known as "flying barn doors" due to their size. The presence of the fish farm which is soon passed may also be an attraction although the loch itself is popular with fishermen and presumably provides decent fishing opportunities for the sea eagles.
When the track forks keep left to head over the bridge crossing the River Clachaig. The right hand track leads up Glen Clachaig and provides another option if you want to get further into the mountains. There are often cattle grazing in this area but it is also a good place for spotting deer. Continue to the restored and fenced off fishing bothy at Knockantivore. This route turns around here but the small headlands ahead also make good stopping points or you can continue further up the glen. Return by the same route.
