1. Start from outside the Tourist Information, housed in the Post Office in the middle of the High Street. There is a small car park opposite. From here head south west up High Street passing a number of independent shops and the attractive wrought iron sign for St Kessoc's Episcopal Church. After a short while turn right along Castleton Road and follow the road downhill and into the countryside.
2. When the small hamlet of Castleton is reached turn left along a lane signed for Footpath to Oak Walk. There are often horses and sheep grazing in the surrounding fields as you pass Lower Borland Farm and continue on the straight track until you almost reach the lonely house at the far end. Here keep left and follow the footpath between the silver birch trees on the house boundary and a fence and soon cross a small bridge.
3. Soon a stile is reached which brings you into Oak Wood. Bear left and follow the winding path up through the trees, crossing a small bridge and a kissing gate on the way. When the path emerges onto a road turn left and follow Tullibardine Road until it reaches Orchil Road where the Jubilee Cairn sits at the entrance to the Cairn Hotel.
4. Turn left again and in a short distance Western Road is reached with the park opposite. Cross the road and head left for a short distance until the edge of the park is reached. Turn right along Quarry Road to head up towards the recycling centre. At the corner, just before the entrance, go straight on down a grassy path until a metal seat is reached. Here bear left down a set of steps and follow this path as it passes next to fields near to the busy A9.
5. Keep straight on, ignoring a path from the right. Eventually new housing is reached and the path continues to the right of these, keeping in the trees. Where the path reaches a larger track cross over and follow the narrow path next to Ruthven Water which has a weir and fish ladder here. Keep the water on your right hand side as you follow the clear path, eventually reaching a minor road where you continue straight ahead passing houses on the left.
6. Cross straight across a road to follow the lane towards Glenruthven Mill, now restored and housing a number of businesses. Continue along the path past the Mill, up a flight of steps to farmland with open views to the Ochils. The path bears left between grazing fields to meet the main road into Auchterarder. Turn left here and follow the road all the way back to the middle of the high street and the start of the walk.
