River Earn and Laggan Hill circuit no. 1

1. Start the Glenturret Distillery, signed as the Famous Grouse Experience. There is a cafe and toilets here as well as the well known distillery tour. Pass behind the distillery and just before the distillery shop cross the wooden footbridge. The path then turns left and passes the adventure playground and then climbs slightly to join a woodland path. Turn sharp right to follow this path through the woods above the river.

2. Follow the path downhill, ignoring a turning to the left. Eventually the path emerges onto the main road. Cross the road and turn left to follow the pavement until you reach the green iron gates of MacRosty Park. The route through the parked is waymarked. Keep right at the first junction, then right again at a circle with a tree, and then left at the bottom of the steps. Bear right after the bandstand and then left before the Turret Burn and follow the path until the road at Turret bridge. Cross the road, turn right and cross the bridge.

3. Immediately after the bridge turn left down a path signed for Lady Mary's Walk, amongst trees. Cross under the viaduct of the now disused railway and follow the curve of the path as climbs up a bank and then starts to follow the banks of the River Earn. This is a lovely section of the walk, with views over the wide river and fine beech trees lining the bank.

4. Keep following the river bank, passing a couple of benches engraved with poems related to their surroundings. Eventually the riverside path ends and the path turns right and soon joins a track. Turn right here, signed for Crieff. After a short while turn left following a sign for Crieff via Laggan Hill and pass through a gate. The path emerges onto open land and climbs uphill passing through two kissing gates.

5. After the second kissing gate turn right signed for Laggan Hill. After cresting the hill there are good views over fields towards Crieff. Follow the clear path until you reach a signed junction where you turn left uphill signed for Turretbank Road. Follow the path next to a stone wall, passing through a metal gate and through trees with lovely views of Crieff in the distance. The path heads downhill towards a farm, before the buildings are reached turn right onto a track and then very shortly turn left through the hedge before continuing by turning right in the field and walking near the trees.

6. Halfway along the field a marker post shows where to turn down towards the houses where you go through a gate and follow a path to the rear of the houses which emerges onto a minor road. Turn left until you reach the main road, cross the road into the road to the distillery. Here you immediately turn left onto a,sometimes muddy, track. After a short while turn right and follow the path through woods and then along the edge of fields above the distillery. The route eventually curves to the left and joins a minor road at a gate where you turn right and then right again at the bigger road to return to the distillery and the start of the walk.
