Weather on the Isle of Skye

loading

The one thing that can be said for certain about Skye weather is that it rarely matches the forecasts! This isn't to say the weather is bad - often it turns out much better than expected.

Nonetheless, for up to date forecasts you might like to try the following forecasts:

BBC 5 Day Forecast General forecast for the island.

Mountain Weather Information Service Forecast This often seems more accurate than the BBC and is recommended for the hills.

Weather stations on Skye One weather station at Carbost near the Cuillins, the other at Staffin in Trotternish. Live and historical data.

They say if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes and it will change. There are also big variations within the island - for example Trotternish and northern Skye get less than half the rainfall of the Cuillins and Minginish further south. In general, the driest months are April and May, whilst the warmest are July and August. Winters are mild and snow is rare at lower levels, though the Cuillin peaks get snow and ice the same as the highest mainland mountains.
