1. The walk starts at the entrance to Gunns Wood off the A839, Rogart road out of Lairg, just to the east of the town. The Forestry Commission car park is on the right as you leave Lairg and is a few metres up a track. From here go round the gate and up the track.
2. At a junction turn right onto a path marked with a yellow marker post. Soon there is a good view of Loch Shin over the houses to the right. Keep on the main path as it leaves the beech trees and enters dense pines, ignore the path on the right. The path bends to the left and climbs gently uphill, ignore the fainter path straight ahead. When the path emerges onto a track turn left.
3. At the next junction turn right still following the yellow waymarkers. The route crosses an open area with pylons and a seat before re-entering the pines. The path meanders through the forest and then heads downhill in the open break with countryside views ahead and another seat. The path then heads left back into the forest. Turn right at the junction to rejoin the outward track. Follow this downhill, past the gate to the parking area.
