1. The car park for the gorge is well signed on a minor road linking the A837 and the A839. There are picnic tables here as well as an information board for the walk. Follow the path through the trees, which are draped with extremely heavy growths of lichen - a sign of the clear air in this remote area. The path, waymarked in red, soon reaches a fork; continue straight ahead here to descend towards the stream.

2. At the floor of the gorge, turn right upstream, passing another picnic table. The gorge sides are not particularly rocky, instead being heavily wooded with occasional slabs and high earth banks. Further on is another picnic table, this time beside a bear - a life-sized wooden sculpture. Further on the gorge sides become steeper and the ground, with light restricted, is overgrown with moss.

3. The gorge narrows as the path climbs slightly to cross an awkward section. Next is a wooden boardwalk right beside the water, followed by a wooden staircase. Beyond some angled slabs slope down into the stream on the far side before more steps as the path finally leaves the gorge.

4. A seat and viewing area give a final look up the gorge, centred on a small waterfall. The path now swings right to return through the forest at a higher level. Before it rejoins the outward route there is another viewing area giving a last look down the gorge, with the bear sculpture visible below. Further on, turn left at the junction reached earlier to return to the car park.
