Paul, thanks, appreciate the follow-up. And yeah, there are lots of things in life that would be nice, but...!

Idea for future functionality: distance from...

I don't know how possible this would be, but wondered about the following functionality through walkhighlands: - some way of noting a default base from which you normally start any trips - typically your home - eg by postcode. Then some kind of plugin access to Google Maps to get a drive time from y...

Re: Corbett images missing

I'm seeing the same behaviour - Corbett images missing from the all hills map popups. Did the fix get unfixed, or might I have something in my browser cache or something meaning I'm still seeing the previous behaviour? (Corbett only map appears to be working fine.)

Re: Blue Door, Rocks of Solitude - Edzell

Hi, glad to hear the route is passable - the last time I was there (in 2019) the path up the west bank of the River North Esk had a big fence blocking the path at a point where it was difficult to get round. This was to enforce the "path closed because of landslide" restriction. Has that f...

Re: GPS Device

Following this thread with interest. I currently use the OS Maps app on my phone with 1:25k mapping - downloaded with codes from the paper maps that are in the rucksack! But looking for something a bit more rugged, and not needing recharged from a battery pack half way up the hill... How much differ...

Re: Food hints

Thanks all - really interesting and helpful. Just have to learn to plan ahead a bit more - and maybe get a folding foam mat to sit on.

Food hints

While this might stray into a kit conversation, interested in more than that: For a day walk (ie not camping/overnight), what food do you take with you and how do you carry it? Home made sandwiches or shop bought? Plastic bag, plastic box, paper bag? Do you consciously minimise rubbish, and if so wh...

Solitude... and wind... and cloud...

Been wanting to do the Cat Law/Corwharn circuit for a while. Forecast was OK, had the day free, so today was the day. Parking was no problem by old gates to Balintore Castle - must have been quite impressive in their day. And the delivery lorry driver who passed me just as I was leaving the car was ...

Re: Ochils: East to West

Nice report of good long hike. Was doing the Glen Sherup circuit that day, and suspect I was a little behind you as you d.d Innerdownie - I also saw the group of three and the older bloke and his dogs - nice chat with him over lunch. I missed the clag - it descended onto Tarmangie after I was headin...

Re: Walk suggestion - and predicting the snow line!

Thanks for responses - hadn't thought of webcams - ended up trying Glen Sherup horseshoe - managed about a third of it, because there was quite a lot of snow, and snow wading + my poor level of fitness meant I would have run out of time for the whole circuit.

Re: Lake District Guidebook

Not a serious suggestion, but I hear W T Palmer's guide to the Lake District gets a good write-up! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/stories-43521810

Walk suggestion - and predicting the snow line!

I'm Dundee based, looking for suggestions for a decent walk this Thursday (5th April). I don't have winter/snow experience (no ice axe, no crampons), and am not confident in predicting where the snow line is likely to be... So, concretely, I'm thinking I'll leave Schiehallion for another day!! But s...
