Re: Anquet - maps not working.

Can't say I've had that issue. Mind you I'm only using the Regional OS maps of Scotland.

Currently using Anquet v1.14, OSX Lion, 8Gb RAM.

Have you tried shutting everything down and just running Anquet?

UK County Tops

Received an email from Cicerone and one of the new releases looks quite interesting: http://www.cicerone.co.uk/product/detail.cfm/book/629/title/the-uk-s-county-tops If you scroll down the link and click on the contents tab it brings up a list of the UK's highest peak of each county/shire. I guess t...

Re: Memory Map/ iPhone

Just be aware that the iPhone battery life is pretty poor. I use mine as a GPS with the Anquet system but make sure to stop the app from running in the background after checking a position. I would say with it running non-stop you're looking at 3 hours tops before it dies.

Re: NOT Landscape Photographer of the Year 2011

Where you went wrong is that you didn't have the right camera. You need the most recent & expensive body to win competitions like that. :D

Path condition going to Carn an Righ

I had a trip up to Glas Tulaichean and then on to Carn an Righ yesterday. I was dismayed at how poor the paths are, most noticeably around Loch nan Eun where the terrain is pretty much peat hag and any paths are in poor condition. I hadn't been up since 1993 (ahem) and too much red wine has flowed u...

Re: Budget Brands

There is some decent cheap gear to be found in Decathlon. European brands at decent prices.

Re: Camera & PC advice if you please?

Another option you might want to consider is to go for something like an Olympus PEN, Lumix G or a Sony NEX. I have an Olympus PEN which can fit into an anorak/shell pocket. I find it easier to use whilst out and about.

Re: Full Tarmachan ridge

I did this a couple of days ago in fine weather using the main WH route. I descended the section where Driftwood decided on the grass route (photo 8, the descent down from Meall Garbh) and founded a bit more tricky than I imagined it would be. There seems to be a lot of washing away of the earth aro...

Ptarmigans and Golden Plovers

I've seen plenty of ptarmigans over the time but had the rare opportunity to see a ptarmigan chick yesterday. After descending Carn Gorm to carry on the horseshoe north/east I startled a parent ptarmigan. I jumped as much as he/she did I think. A few seconds later I noticed a little speckled chick r...

Re: Creag Meagaidh 3

I did this route the week before but in reverse. ie went up Carn Liath first then anti-clockwise round the tops, eventually carrying on to Sron a Ghoire and carrying on off the end of the ridge back to Aberarder. Stunning views at the top if you can get a clear day. Not wanting to hijack the thread ...

Re: Afternoon Jaunt up Craiglich

I had another visit up here last week and met two pleasant blokes at the top. We talked for a while and discussed the great views, pointing out the peaks we could see in the distance. One of the fellow walkers happened to be sitting down facing south at the side of the cairn and he suddenly pointed ...

Re: What's in Your Rucksack? Travelling Light or Heavy?

As an aside I'm always surprised at the number of folk who wear gaiters regardless of the weather/terrain. Can't be too comfy.
