Re: Mountaineering Fitness

Yes I was talking about your weight buddy. Anyway I honestly believe that if you keep at it and get out regularly things will get better. I have only been hillwalking since spring this year and can feel an improvement, I wouldn't say I am any fitter, just slightly better conditioned to the task in h...

Re: Mountaineering Fitness

I was actually, most folk (who knew me) commented that I was too thin for my build...I trained hard to join the Army and have always had and probably always will have weight issues...I reckon for my build 15 1/2 stone is about right but that was outwith the acceptable limits for the forces..as a new...

Re: Mountaineering Fitness

Nope we didn't carry a 60 pound pack....carried about 60 pounds of gear on different parts of our body....its spread out so no the same. Don't know exact weight of the pack but it wasn't easy getting back up if you were on the deck.

Re: Mountaineering Fitness

I was about 14 stone when I was in the army....I can only see pounds and stones in my post...wheres the mix? 60 pounds was everything inc gun, helmet, combats, bergen and boots etc... bear in mind we were using 50's technology in the late 80's and 90's:lol:

Re: Mountaineering Fitness

Folowed this with interest. I am 18-19 stone and 6ft 2 and can lug myself up hills pretty well and find it easier the more I do it. All right, (like PollyH) I may not sound or (unlike PollyH) look the prettiest  whilst I do it but I manage fine and my times tend to be the lower ones quoted on t...

Re: Beinn Bhuidhe on one hell of a wet day

Well done on doing this as a first solo. I nearly came to grief on the big rock towards the end of the gully and just froze over the drop! However apart from that and a couple of airy bits on the final ridge (which can be bypassed) it was quite an enjoyable hill! Really enjoyed reading your report, ...

Grease Lightning on Beinn Chabhair

Did this walk last month but been too busy to type up a report.....I had been watching the MWIS forecast for the past couple of days and it wasn't looking promising with warnings of high winds prolonged showers and thunder storms. However the day before it changed to moderate winds, chance of a heav...

Re: Cruachan Horseshoe

Great report and as skuk007 says nice to see some pics of the Slabs. I have heard all about them and as a self confessed feartie it has put me off! However it looks reasonably ok and I will hopefully get round to these two next year.

Re: When 4 become 3

Nice report and pics...wish I had done An Stuc when I climbed Lawers and Glass as I didn't fancy it from Meall Garbh! So the Stuc remains my last remaining hill in the Lawers range and it kinda niggles me!! However gives me an excuse to go back :D Deer Stalking on a Sunday?? According to Ralph Store...

Re: Meall Buidhe -The Looniness of the Long Distance List Ticker

Its a pity you got weather like that cos the views are stunning....spent so long at the summit didn't have time to do Stuchd an Lochain! The path when we did it was pretty boggy but have done worse...Meall Corranaich springs to mind!!!! :(

Re: Odd Lochan

They look like duck shooting hides to me. You settle in before dusk and wait on the ducks flighting in as it gets dark.

Re: Shalloch on Minnoch

The 2nd time that I did manage up the Shalloch I popped over to Tarfessock as well, however looking at Kirriereoch's north face it seems very steep and craggy and I feel the easiest way would be from the west, but its the tough going that puts me off....I think the S/W must have the roughest ground ...
