Regarding the sleeping bags, me and my wife always had to use two identicals zipped together, because without me, SHE would have been the ice block the next morning, not just the water

We had this the other way round.
Camping Cookers often used butane.
On a winter tour we had to put a tea candle under the butane canister because it turns liquid at about -11 ° Celsius, so we had to warm it a bit.
After that I bought my Trangia:)

I had to think a moment to recognize that the water you were talking about in the end, was not in your boot, but the boot:)

Correct, I knew that would not take long, but I like the photo so much. This was still taken the old fashioned way, where you only had 36 chances per film to do something decent:)
