Re: Hill-walking pal sought

I appreciate some people are put off by clubs but it might be worth looking into as we are just along the road from you. Yes, I admit I am one of those put off by clubs. Someone always uses it as an excuse to booze afterwards, which very much spoils things. I have nothing against a pint at the end ...

Re: Hill-walking pal sought

Private messages duly sent. Further contact from anyone else interested still welcome! For some reason your private message has not appeared in my inbox.... Sorry. It wasn't clear that was an expression of interest in hiking together. It seemed tangential. I apologise for misreading. In ans...

Re: WALKHIGHLANDS SUMMER MEET, RATAGAN. JULY 12/13 2019

I'm interested, probably for camping. What are my chances of being able to bum a lift from southern Fife (five minutes from the motorway north)?

Hill-walking pal sought

Hi I'm looking for a hill-walking friend or two. I'm more interested in a good walk than box ticking, so would rather climb an interesting Corbett than a boring Munro. I have climbed several dozen, and would like to add to that. I don't have my own transport, but am only a short detour from the M90 ...

Re: New member looking for a hill walking buddy

I am probably the wrong side of the country (just outside Dunfermline) but if you or indeed anyone else browsing the thread is seeking a walking partner, either for the hills or for longer low-level hikes please feel encouraged to get in touch with me. I am open to single days or weekends, plus poss...

Kit review: Terra Nova Laser Competition 1

I bought this tent at the beginning of the summer, have now spent the best part of a month with it, and think I have enough experience with it to provide some opinions. I've worn out a lot of tents over the course of my life, starting with a Saunders Jetpacker (remember those?!). I also have a Vaude...

Pitlochry to Forres, via the Cairngorms and Dava Way

In which your intrepid hero crosses the Pass of Killiecrankie, ascends Glen Tilt to the Fords of Geldie, passes the hazardous Lairig Ghru and the downright treacherous Chalamain Gap in a gale, before descending to Glenmore Forest, then over the Ryvoan Pass and through the foreboding Forest of Aberne...

Report covering multiple WH walks

Further to zatapathetique's query on linking from more than one route (viewtopic.php?f=18&t=65655), I have a slightly different problem, in that the walk I'm writing a report on serially follows a number of walks. I walked from Pitlochry to Blair Atholl (https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/perthshir...

Re: Plant ID request

That was quick. Thanks.

Right description, right habitat, right flowering period. Looks good.

Thanks again, Charles.

Plant ID request

I thought I knew what this is, but I just checked and I was wrong.

This photo was taken back in June, in the central Cairngorms, at an altitude of about 550m, as a water marginal.

Anybody?

Many thanks.

Re: Plant iD please?

I think you have the wrong kingdom. I'm going for fungi, not plantae.

My first thought is yellow earth tongue fungus (Spathularia flavida).

Hello

Hi I thought I should post proper introduction. I've been loitering and reading other people's posts for a while, and have posted a couple of walk reports. I'm mostly interested in long-distance walking, but want to add to my Munro count. I'm certainly amenable to making friends, but I'd need to be ...

Re: Hiya everyone

I learned a bit about the ecology of ticks last year after I was treated for Lyme disease. I was bitten on one of the Western Isles, probably Barra, followed by a spreading rash. I tend to mention that this was not a typical "bull's eye" rash, but simply a spreading rash at the site of the...

Re: Cape Wrath Trail Fast and Light: 230 miles in 11 days

Truly epic. I read this on the basis of planning the last leg of my own Scotland End to End: so far I've covered the Tweed to Inverness via Fort William and the Great Glen, but have no great wish to walk to John O' TouristTrap.. I have a thought on your dead ereader problem. My experience with Kindl...
