Maintenance of Nubuck Boots

I've searched and searched the forum and Google for this question, but haven't managed to find an answer, so apologies if it's hiding here somewhere. I recently bought a pair of Hanwag boots, which are nubuck. After some research I think I've settled on Grangers Gear Cleaner and Repel for keeping th...

Re: Day walks

Hi Mini Mac! Sorry I never got a notification for this !! thank you isn't he gorgeous!! No we haven't had a problem with ticks at all (only in our limited experience of Scottish hills and moorland!) But as he is dog aggressive I usually stick to winter months so theres less dog walkers and ...

Re: Scotland loop

I did this route a couple of years ago and was surprised by the changing scenery. It went from green to tarmac to something that wouldn't look out of place in Arizona! Lovely with views of the loch. :)

Re: Scardy Cat at everything or feels like it

When you visit Scotland you could try the Cairngorms on the East side, near Braemar. There are good tracks and bridges with little or no need for dancing from rock to rock over the raging torrent. Lairig Ghru#5b.jpg Derry Woods.JPG Those have to be the coolest bicycle handlebars I have ever seen! I...

Re: Parking near Cairngorm Mountain Resort

The poor guy was, of course, constantly getting battered by the wind so I'm not surprised if that set-up didn't last long. I think it probably has more to do with the operating company going bust in the Autumn! The ski car parks are free this winter ( https://www.mountaineering.scot/news/cas-car-pa...

Re: Parking near Cairngorm Mountain Resort

The parking at the funicular base station does not have a compulsory charge - only voluntary donations. Even when there was a compulsory charge last summer, there weren't actually any parking machines or tickets. When I visited in September last year there was an older gentleman standing at the ent...

Re: Day walks

Sounds like a lovely walk and I love the photo of your staffy! I have two and would love to get them out on the hills. Think I'd be up and down in record time. Can I ask if you've had any issues with ticks when you've had your dog on the hills? I don't use tick repellent on my dogs for a varie...

Re: Walkhighlands Mountaineering Scotland navigation courses

Excellent. I've been keeping an eye out for these being posted - thank you.

Now to decide whether to book a June course so I can practise the skills when on the hills in the summer, or book an October course because it's much easier for me to get to!

A Daunder Around Dunkeld

As someone who enjoys getting outdoors, exploring different areas and experiencing new things, being tied to life at home can really put a downer on things. That's why when I heard from my mother - who also loves a good walk - to say that she would be visiting from her Shropshire home for a week I k...

Re: Regatta-Are they really the worst brand?

As an outdoors newbie I find this a very interesting topic with lots of encouraging responses; the most important being to find what works best for you regardless of brand or price. As someone who has spent money on other things because they are deemed to be the best, only to find that I could get t...
