Re: B1 vs B2 boots for winter mountain walking

If it's for winter hillwalking then I think B1 are sufficient. I've been using Scarpa SL M3's for years which are B1 but with Grivel G12's which are c2. Never had an issue, there's little sole flex in my boots. This winter will be the M3's last unfortunately. I'll take my crampons with me when I go ...

Re: Dogs fouling on pathways

A blight of many parks in populated areas. One of the most depressing sights other than large scale fly tipping is plastic bags of dog s*!t hanging from branches after folk have launched them into the woods instead of binning.

I don't like people sometimes :(

Re: Banshee 200 (2017)

Vango items are a bit hit and miss these days, some are excellent and others cheap tat. I've had a F10 Argon200 for a few years that I thought was flimsy and wouldn't last, I was wrong. This tent still looks like new and has withstood some horrendous wind during summit camps. Modern fabrics used in ...

Been using this for a good while now. Not expensive and seems well made.

Re: The Mountain in the City

A great reminder to appreciate the hills for what they are rather than see them as red blips to turn blue :D

Re: Corrour damaged!

It feels like there's no escape from these people at times. Living close to and working in Glasgow, my time in the hills and outdoors is some escapism. The people you meet are usually like minded "good people". It infuriates me whenever these idiots behaviour impacts the life of good peopl...

Re: head torches

Waterproof has to be the main criteria I think, conditions are likely to be rotten when you'll have to rely on it the most  I have a black diamond, can't recall the model but it's one with a separate battery pack I can put in an inside pocket whilst in use. Nothing kills batteries faster than ...

Re: Crampons - any info appreciated!

From my experience I say the boot and crampon rating is a very rough guide. I live and walk in Scotland and couldn't justify the expense of a b2 boot given the limited usage it would get. I've been using Scarpa SL M3's which are b1 and a pair of Grivel g12's which are c2 together for years with no i...

Re: Garmin 64 help please

Re the fuzzy screen, I think you might just be finding the resolution limit of the garmin. Compared to what we're all used to with modern mobiles it's pretty woeful to be honest! It is however fit for purpose whilst using the 1:50k maps, I've read that it can be an issue whilst trying to see the det...

Re: Really waterproof jacket & overtrousers

I run hot and I've given up with she'll jackets using Goretex and Event fabric. I end up soaking with my own sweat and ultimately colder if out for a few hours. I moved over to Paramo stuff a couple of years ago and find it better suited to me. Ultimately not as waterproof as Gore and Event but more...
