Re: Ben Lawers 7

If I was to do it again I would do exactly as LobeyD suggests. I had parked across the river from the zigzags at night as the map looked like there was a ford across the river near the big lay-by to the west of invervar. I woke up with a plan to cross the river with heavy duty bin bags as it was qui...

Re: Ben Lawers 7

I did it a couple of years back with one car from the north. This is a good report to look at https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=67473. I actually parked up at Camusvrachan as there is a bridge there and did the seven anti-clockwise. It is a fair old walk back to there fro...

Re: An Stuc conditions?

I was there two Saturdays ago and there had been snow but nothing much after sun had come out. Can’t say anything about current weather. I had come from the Ben Lawers side and went down the steep side. I’d never so it again as the ‘path’ is really badly eroded. I don’t mind a scramble and exposure ...

Re: Beinn Dorain and Beinn An Dothaidh

These are nice hills. My wife’s danish and we visit there every year. It is a country which loves the outdoors but this generally means longer low level trekking. We drove past the highest point last year on way to Skagen and it really just looks like a rolling field so never got out to ‘climb’ it. ...

Re: Mamores ridge: mixed fortunes & avoided an epic

I got the bus and started from Kinlochleven and planned to do the ten over two days. Had to face reality very early when my backpack broke but had it all went to plan I wouldn’t have camped at that beautiful spot. So i guess it was meant to be. Aborted a winter walk in February and on the route down...

Re: Bob Beag & the Drum 4

Thanks for the comment. Most of the people we met while walking were also doing the walk in opposite direction from us, i.e. the same direction as you. I did suspect that the snow had been very deep and there were a few spots where the snow has gathered in drifts where there is still some depth to ...

Re: Mamores ridge: mixed fortunes & avoided an epic

Sometimes you just need to know when to stop. Safety first. I attempted pretty much the same last July and only managed 4 leaving the Ring of Steall etc for another day. I camped in the exact same place and even in horrible weather it’s a fantastic spot. I had bad weather and equipment failures but ...

Re: Bob Beag & the Drum 4

Nice report and photos. Did this in reverse on 8th and can’t believe how little snow you had on Sgairneach Mhor. Literally only 3 inches of trig point showing back then but very patchy elsewhere. Enjoyed these ‘boring’ hills apart from the trudge back to the car

Lost leki walking poles sgurr eilde mor/binnein beag

Lost these on main route up from kinlochleven yesterday. I realised when it was too late to turn around. Most likely where you cross the allt leacann Na fair as I had to repair my backpack there. Realised miles further on and as I wasn't coming back that way had to declare them a loss. If anyone cam...
