Re: Ben Aden / Loch Quoich Levels

Not certain, I did it at end of May about 6 years ago after a fairly dry winter. The route across was just ankle deep on that occasion. The Abhainon Chosaidh was also a fairly straight forward crossing, can be tricky if in spate conditions. It was a very hot calm day and took about 10 hrs car to car...

Re: Best Cairngorm Campsites

Glenmore campsite is fairly handy for the Cairngorms, a few Munros could be tackled direct from the campsite.

Re: Affric circuit

I have crossed the Abhainn a Choilich mid May when doing Ben Fhionnlaidh from Iron Lodge direction. It was definitely a boots off crossing on that occasion, I would imagine it could be a difficult crossing if river in spate, so you will need to take the weather conditions very much into consideratio...

Re: Knoydart 3 from Kinloch Hourn?

I did this about 20 years ago and easily doable if weather OK. I did have a tent with me but found the bothy to be empty, so stayed there instead of camping. About half a dozen other walkers arrived in the bothy the following night but still plenty of room. [note not a free bothy, there was an hones...

Re: Beinn Fhionnlaidh (on its own) from Affric

Another option would be to cycle up Glen Elchaig as far as Iron Lodge. Then walk in from there, the slight complication is crossing the Abhainn a' Choilich, so really needs to be tackled after a dry spell [had to take boots off when I tackled from this direction] A long day, probably 10 hrs. There i...

Re: Beinn Sgritheall in a campervan

To late for you now, the village hall car park at Corran allows up to 3 motorhomes / campervans to overnight in the car park for a small fee [honesty box in hall] Toilet block is left open overnight. As with most things nowadays, this system seems to be getting abused, there were 5 vans overnighting...

Re: Glen Lyon, Invervar/Camusvrachan bridges

Its been a few years since I did the Lawers hills from Glen Lyon, my recollection is that the OS map is correct and there are bridges at Camusvrachan & Inervar.

Re: Closure of Hopes Reservoir car park, East Lothian

Took a run up there this afternoon on the bike. No cars in the new estate car park, no cars parked at the filter beds, no sign of any walkers about. I assume the emergency work at the Water treatment plant has been completed, a single Scottish Water van drove off just as I arrived. I know it has bee...

Re: Strathfarrer 4

Note there is a message about winter access to the Glen this year on the Mountaineering Scotland website:- "From the 31st October 2021 the gate on the road through Glen Strathfarrar is closed. The winter vehicular access arrangement to access the mountains is currently under negotiation with Br...

Re: Mullardoch Ferry

From his web site " The service runs from January until the beginning of August, weather permitting."

I thought his main job was a stalker, so probably out on the hills at this time of year.

Re: A9

Some work has started related to the Moy-Tomatin stretch, it's just more to do with necessary changes to nearby rail infrastructure before work on the main road starts (you see the entrance to the works when passing Lynebeg). Are you certain about that, I think those works were associated with the ...

Re: A9

No sign of the next stage of dualling starting [Moy - Tomatin I believe]

I thought the whole project was supposed to be completed by 2025, will be interesting to see if some stages get quietly dropped now the Greens are having a say in things.

Re: Glen dessarry

Yes its a good estate road and fine for a MTB.

Have cycled in past the A' Chuil bothy. Its a few years since I was last there, track gets a bit rougher once into the next plantation if I remember correctly.

Re: The Cheviot from Kirk Yetholm???

I have only done as far as the Schill from Kirk Yetholm [car park at end of road]. From my track log that took 2 hrs 45 mins to get that far [Pennine Way over White Law] Don't know if that will help with your assessment. The one thing I would say is that the route over the Cheviot has a great sandst...
