Re: Return of the BIG MEET! 6-8 Oct **2 BEDS AVAILABLE!!**

Looking forward to it. Depending on what the weather forecast looks like I might take the Friday off work and try to do Sail Chaorainn as I had to bail on that one when I got whited out at the top of Sgurr Nan Conbhairean a few winters ago. I'll probably omit Carn Ghluasaid and just go up the down w...

Re: Our friend Alteknacker

This really is the most awful news. I only met Allan a handful of times on Walkhighlands meets, I know there are many others on here who knew him better than I, but I always found him to be a very impressive individual. I think the mountains attract many of us who have quite an obsessive nature, and...

Re: WH Summer Meet - Inverie 10-12 July 2020 NOW 8-10 JULY 2

Hi Jackie, I've got my name down for this but will be unable to make it this year as most of my annual leave from work is already committed to other stuff and unfortunately this was the trip that had to be sacrificed. If you manage to get my bed sold to another taker then just put any refund money t...

Tackling the remote stuff in Glen Affric

I love a hill. I particularly love a munro. But once you’ve done a few of them they start getting a wee bit further away and a wee bit harder to get to. The opportunities to knock off big numbers in a weekend start to lessen or at the very least necessitate a bit of imagination and creative route cr...

Re: Wet! Wet! Wet! Giving Am Faochagach Some Welly!

I intend to leave this one for the depths of winter when hopefully the worst of it will be frozen solid.

Re: WH Summer Meet - Inverie - 10-12 July 2020

The Mam Barrisdale bealach between Ladhar Bheinn and Luinne Bheinn at roughly 450m - are there any feasible wild camping spots up there or is Barrisdale Bothy pretty much the only show in town for breaking up the journey? And is it both possible and desirable to scuttle up and down Ladhar Bheinn fr...

Re: WH Summer Meet - Inverie - 10-12 July 2020

That's me paid  These three munros have been on my "some day" list for a while so this meet will be the boot up the backside I need to make it happen. I intend to walk in and out from Kinloch Hourn over two days each way but I have a couple of questions for those more familiar with t...

TGO Challenge 2019

In the summer of 2018 I became quite interested in the idea of hiking right across Scotland from coast to coast and upon Googling the idea I soon became aware that this was an annual organised event that hundreds of other similarly-minded folk embark upon. I mentioned to my friend, Allan Brown, that...

Re: WALKHIGHLANDS SUMMER MEET, RATAGAN. JULY 12/13 2019

According to my training schedule I need to do a 15 mile run that weekend. I think I'll take advantage of the setting, park the car at Morvich, run along the Affric-Kintail Way almost as far as Alltbeithe, then head back west along Gleann Gniomhaidh over the Bealach an Sgairne and back to Morvich. T...

Re: AN Teallach - Glas Tholl descent

I didn't notice a path although that doesn't necessarily mean that one doesn't exist. I just trudged on down, it's steep but manageable. I remember once reaching the corrie floor it being very boggy from there pretty much all the way back but I picked a rainy day which would have exacerbated that pa...

Re: The "Singhing Sherpa" leads 5 on to Slioch

Good stuff, George. It was a windy old day once we were up on the high ground but that corrie and the high lochan are an absolute delight.

I'm not normally one for cups of tea first thing in the morning but Parminder can make one for me at Ratagan provided WADA don't show up
