Re: Winter sleeping mat

If it's just UK use, I don't think you'd need anything too extreme in the way of R values. 4-5 should be adequate depending on if you sleep warm or cold. After that it's a balance of price, weight, and comfort. To clarify, 4-5 should be good for down to mibbe -10, again, depending on how you sleep,...

Re: Winter sleeping mat

A lot depends on budget and what you're after. If it's just UK use, I don't think you'd need anything too extreme in the way of R values. 4-5 should be adequate depending on if you sleep warm or cold. After that it's a balance of price, weight, and comfort. Personally, I've used both the Robens Ices...

Re: Easy pitch light weight tent?

The 1.6kg is sans tent pegs it seems, so factoring that in would make it a little heavier

Re: Easy pitch light weight tent?

Quick disclaimer: never owned, used, or looked at this tent in person... But the Vango F10 Xenon is reduced at UOG just now: https://ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/f10-xenon-ul-2-tent/ 2 person tunnel. 1.6 kg Edit to add: I DO own a Vango Spirit 200+ (similar tunnel type, but with an extended porch and...

Re: Outdoorsy film review - is there a thread yet

I'd like to add The Ritual to the list of films not to watch before hiking trips

Good film though...

Re: Outdoorsy film review - is there a thread yet

I quite enjoyed The Way when I watched it last year. Directed by Emilio Estevez and starring his dad. Plus it's based around El Camino de Santiago and since I've never been there no issues with knowing if any of the places are wrong

Re: pagan ritual sites?

If you've not done so, I'd recommend picking up the OS Ancient Britain map. That should give you a few ideas.

Re: Katadyn Befree water filter

Evian definitely don't fit if that helps narrow it down some.

Re: Lightweight base layer advice

Another vote for Montane Dart. Very light and comfortable material, though as already noted they are on the "trim" end of the sizing scale (which I find with almost all Montane stuff, even a cap I bought). I've also got a couple of Rab Force hoodies. Again very light and comfortable materi...

Re: Calling all side sleepers!!

I've bought a Nemo Tensor insulated regular wide last year. While it's not the thickest mat once blown up, I've not had any issues with lying on it on my side. I'm currently sitting at around 16.5 to 17 stone (I've taken to viewing this as a lifetime personal high score, rather than as "overwei...

Re: Rucksack size for day hikes

I love my Talon 22 as well, though I recently broke the hip belt buckle standing on it by accident. It swallows a fair amount of gear while still being comfy and for anything outside of wintery conditions it's more than enough.

Re: Headtorch Recommendations

I've got a Black Diamond Cosmo that takes either triple A batteries like most, or a BD rechargeable battery pack that you can pick up for £15 seperately. It's been decent so far as a replacement for my old Petzl Tikka.

Edit to add, the Cosmo was from ultralightoutdoorgear for £28.
