Re: Getting gas canisters around Tyndrum/Crianlarich

I'm not sure about Crianlarich, I have never ventured there the times I have done WHW. Tyndrum however does have The Green Welly Stop and they stock all kinds of camping sundries. I can't say for certain they do gas as I've never needed it, but I would be amazed if they didn't. There is also camp si...

Re: Repairing a thermarest sleeping mat

Hi Andy What about Tenacious Tape? I know that's for tents but could also work on a Thermarest mat. I have a tendency to go through quite a bit of gear (striving to get what suits) and I currently have an excess of sleeping mats. If you like you can have a Sea 2 Summit mat i no longer use. If you ar...

Re: Skye Trail: Wild camping the route with my dog, Lucky

What a fantastic report. I really enjoyed reading that. Skye is a place I have only been for a day trip and I am dying to get back.

Some of your pictures were truly amazing also. Once again well done on achieving (all 3 of you)

Re: WHW - The Adventures of a Wo[a]ndering Academic(s)

Congratulations on completing    . I hope your friend has managed to recover. I have completed the WHW twice now and like yourself I find the camaraderie with your fellow walker truly inspiring. I'm also pleased that you encountered a lot of your fellow countrymen. I seem to recall...

Re: Novices on the CW trail-an epic adventure

Many, many congratulations to you both on completing this. I am always in awe of those who complete the CWT. I am thinking of doing this next year before I turn 50, but I am now re-assessing this to maybe defer for a year or two. It gives me such confidence to hear of others doing it. Again many con...

Re: WHW, wild camping, food, etc

As an addendum. Pub gardens. The only ones I can think of are Beech Tree Inn (7 miles) and Oak Tree Inn (Balmaha 20 miles). Other pubs may have outdoor seating but these are the only 2 I would class as gardens per se. Drying rooms. I have only encountered the 2. One at Glencoe Ski Centre, this one I...

Re: WHW, wild camping, food, etc

Going to give an honest reply, but hope I don't get shot down for doing so. Your comments to Summit Stupids response were somewhat harsh and unnecessary I believe. Firstly your question is fraught with many imponderables and improbables. Do you have Harveys West Highland Way map? I have found this b...

Re: OS Maps

Checking your local library is a good shout if your in a city. I used to live in Newcastle and their library had a fantastic selection of Scottish os maps. They kept 2 copies of every map. If you’re looking for any offers on maps to buy Waterstones are generally £8:99 and WH Smith’s £9:99 but do a ...

Re: West Highland way.. Wild camp locations

If you know the day you are coming back try and book your rail ticket from Fort William in advance. You may well get it considerably cheaper. Also the train arrives from Fort William railway station into Glasgow Queen Street station. The train to Milngavie is from Glasgow Central, it is only about a...

Re: West Highland WAYHEY!!

Hi Laila Many, many congratulations to you both on completing    . Like you I also get quite nostalgic when having a reflective moment of everything that has just passed. I kind of remember my train journey home soaking in the scenery as a wtf moment. Have I just really done that. ...

Re: Plantar Fasciitis

This is something I suffered from in the past (about 2 years ago) and I do sympathise with you. Firstly, check with your GP, it is an inflammation and sometimes a good anti-inflammatory can alleviate pain. I was first on Naproxen and then Meloxicam. I found Meloxicam to be slightly better. Also GP w...

Re: Cape Wrath Trail 2019 With Dry Feet

Thank you for posting. I have only just skimmed bits the now but will read fully on my lunch break. The CWT is something I am also considering, my original plan was for before my 50th (next August), but I may be revising that now. I always find all the walk reports so helpful, more so the ones on th...

Re: Tent question

My tuppence worth here. I previously had a Vango Force 10 Xenon UL tent. I was so excited about it and expecting good things from it. When I first took it out I noticed there was a bad tear on the flysheet. This was about 2 weeks prior to my WHW walk and whilst Go Outdoors offered to have it repaire...

Re: Wild camping on West Highland Way?

Hi LailaQuiche There are a couple of areas for you to wild camp near to Drymen. As you follow Gartness Road and pass Drymen Campsite, the road will turn left. If you continue this road you will come into Drymen, however to stay on path of WHW you will cut across a field. I have seen people wild camp...

Re: Outer Hebrides trip 18 - 21 April

Hi Henoctasus (Vlad) Wow, that sounds like an absolutely amazing trip you have planned. It would have definitely been something that appealed to me. However at Easter week end I am setting out to do WHW and then GGW. The Outer Hebrides is so so on my places I would love to visit. I really would have...
