Oops, meant whatever the road that goes up the Great Glen is - as I said, I don't drive!

Re: Where to avoid the weather this weekend?

Appreciate the replies everyone, thank you, though I am aware of the delineations of the Highlands as MWIS defines them - just that the term "western Scotland" seems to suggest the whole western seaboard might be in for a soaking. If I could rephrase my question: Assuming that the ambiguou...

Where to avoid the weather this weekend?

I'm heading to Scotland for a couple of weeks on Thursday. Mixed messages on the MWIS site, but it seems to suggest avoiding western Scotland which is a shame as I was planning on starting at Moidart. I'm not sure what area exactly "western Scotland" covers as most of the Highlands would s...

Re: Cairngorm bus times???

I got caught out by these buses a couple months back. I was expecting to be able to get a bus back from the ski centre, when the helpful gentleman attending the car park told me the bus company had recently stopped services to the centre at the weekend. My advice would be to phone the company for co...

Exploring the Braeriach plateau

Day 1 With good weather forecast until Saturday, I took the National Express up from Manchester to Glasgow on Wednesday night, then the Citylink up to Aviemore. This is a relatively painless way to travel such a great distance - Scotland is generally pretty good to those of us without cars. I'd int...

Re: PHOTO COMPETITION #91 — July 2019

I think we've all taken variations on that shot before Graham, but can't remember seeing one as good as this. Really stunning.

Quite a few other photos could have won in any month not blessed by the Suilven shot, well done to everyone.

Re: Braeriach Cairn Toul Traverse - Coylumbridge/Glenmore/Su

It's a vehicle-ready track up to the lodge, can't remember what it's like for the kilometer to the Lairig Ghru path after that. If you've cycled into the LG before you'll be fine I'm sure.

Re: wind strength/direction

I remember camping at Lochan Dearg a Chuil Mhoir beneath Cul Mor a few years ago, and the wind suddenly picked up from blowy to outrageous right after I got my tent up. The hanging valley was acting as a wind tunnel. I spent a sleepless night trying to prop the tent up with my knees, and it just abo...

Re: Braeriach Cairn Toul Traverse - Coylumbridge/Glenmore/Su

Are you asking about the path between Coylumbridge and the junction at NH937075? If so, that's eminently cycleable. If you're asking about the path from Cairngorm Lodge, I might suggest doing the route via Rothiemurchus Lodge.
