Re: Strathfarrer 4

If you are doing the 4 munros, I definitely recommend West -> East as the direction. The east side of the route is a total bog, best leaving that until the end! I posted a few weeks about the second gate that's appeared down the glen at the edge of Braulen estate. Loads of room for bikes around it a...

Re: Lost

Honestly, I do get a lot from reading about near misses. I want to make sure I am always learning, particularly given the number of walks I do myself. I am glad people involved in these are open about sharing their experiences, its how the rest of us learn. Just had a browse over a few stories in he...

Re: Links to Routes on ViewRanger app removed?

I understand about the GPX files but is there a way of seeing route guidance on a mobile without having to go to the website? The Viewranger link was brill and it would be good to have a simple substitute. I haven't found an equivalent with Outdoor Active. I tend to open the WH description on the b...

Re: Second gate in strathfarrar

Thanks for the comments. After reading this for the tenth time, I probably have mis-read the description about when this gate may or may not be closed. But its incredibly unclear and it gives the sense of another time-limit should you be trying the Strathfarrar circuit. To answer another query, ther...

Second gate in strathfarrar

Apologies if this has been posted already, I did have a look. I was in Glen Strathfarrar yesterday and noticed they now have a second gate at the boundary for Braulen Estate (320 395) IMG20211006130027.jpg So the gate notes access is similar to the main gate. But you can see the caveat that it "...

Re: Outdooractive/ Viewranger

Sandra 2 ways of doing this on Android. Sadly its not as easy as the old link between viewranger and OA. 1. Use a browser on a laptop. Log into OA using same username/password as phone. Download the GPX file from Walkhighlands and then import using the 'Route Planner' menu. You will then see it unde...

Re: Glen Etive access

Hi

I was down there on 27/28 September for a couple of days tackling the Starav hills. I only went as far as the usual parking spot for Starav, but I didn't have any access issues on the road on the way down.

Re: A special overnighter in the Cairngorms

Fantastic photos. I was on the other side of Lairig Ghru a couple of weeks ago with a walk round Ben Macdui. Looking over this route from Càrn a' Mhàim was amazing. Really motivated me to get this route in before the end of the year... hopefully!

Re: Bidean nam Bian and Stob Coire Sgreamhach - What a Day!!

Loved reading your report. I did this walk 2-3 weeks ago on a very similar day. It was one of my favourite walks, an epic route. Thank you for sharing!

Re: Meall Corranaich & Meall a' Choire Leith Loop

Thanks for posting, you definitely got a much dryer walk than I had and your pics are fab. I nearly lost a hiking shoe in that last bog walk to the car, so you picked a great dry spell!

Re: 5 from Inverey: scorchio!

I did this route the day after you - on Friday! Its a big old bike/hike. I did the "as the crow flies" route from the top of Carn an Righ to Glas Tulaichean. Its quite a steep descent from SE ridge of CaR, and another steep climb on tired legs up west side of GT, but all through heather (a...

Re: A Black Mount Bimble on a Beautiful Day

Thanks for a very honest report! This one is on my list to do next few weeks, and I have found the route description a bit intimidating as you mentioned as well. But I feel a lot more confident in seeing your photos and your report. So thank you - really appreciated

Re: Brothers Ridge, Ciste Dhubh

gman

8 years after your post, just wanted to say thanks for the GPX file. I did this walk at the weekend and it was spot-on. The drop before Ciste Dhubh was pretty significant, but its very well worth hooking this 4th munro onto the brothers ridge.

Thank you again

Re: Munros with 'meh' views...

I don't like speaking badly of any of our national treasures... but there are a few at Drumochter just off the A9 that would be good candidates. 4 on the west of the road, or a double/single options on the east side. I did them all in pretty decent weather to be honest, the ones on the west have vie...

Re: ViewRanger

Wow- its been 2-3 months since I downloaded one, so haven't picked up they are no more. That's a blow, the VR routes have been excellent. Is there a decent alternative in mind?
