An Teallach and Fisherfield, Sun, Inversions, Aurora, Rocks

The forecast for the weekend had been looking quite good for a while and with each check of cloud base and pressure charts my plans progressed up the ladder of hills saved for a good day. Perhaps Strathconon from Luipmaldrig? Then an upgrade to maybe Knoydart? Then finally with two days of crystal c...

Re: Stay at home

Apologies I wasn't speaking to you directly. It's more a frustration with many in the community in general. My own fault for for going on Twitter. As someone who was born and grew up in a rural community, but now lives in Glasgow I can see both sides of this. I understand why some communities are s...

Re: Stay at home

The five-mile distance is mentioned several times in the document, for example in the tables for each stage of phasing at the end. They do however make clear this is guidance not legally enforceable. In this way it isn't much different from now where travel is simply against guidance rather than aga...

Discussing how a return to the outdoors should be managed

Based on the at times heated (on all sides) discussions after the rather sudden changes in England I've written a few thoughts about how this might be managed in Scotland. Here we have an opportunity to have this discussion and address some of the issues that became prominent south of the border bef...

Re: Nine days, Nine 4000'ers, Eh eight guys, a ton of porrid

teaandpies: apart from the first day that was pretty hard just for the amount of ascent, most of it was no harder than i'd expect a normal 20k day to be. We got into a nice rythm and by the end were used to getting up and just walking.

Speedtrip: Yeah that will have been us you saw on the 10th. We saw a few people on the ridge from the Aonachs so that might have been you.

Nine days, Nine 4000'ers, Eh eight guys, a ton of porridge.

Gaining a reputation as the outdoorsy one at your school has some serious upsides. Andy Duff from East Lothian council was looking for some keen students to join him for a trip. The idea was to climb all nine of Scotland’s 4000 foot mountains in one continuous and self-powered trip. This was of cour...

Chamonix? Zermatt? Glencoe?

With MWIS predicting "an almost certain" chance of cloud free munros, it was time to dip into the "keep it for a good day" list of mountains. Top of that list was Bidean. We arrived in Glencoe to perfect blue skies and an already warming sun. I'm not one for writing much and plen...
