Re: Rucksack

Ive had a north face 35L rucksack for years, but never quite comfortable on long walks. Replaced it with an Osprey Kestrel 48L one last year. Yes its probably too big for a days walk but i have a large heavy camera that didnt fit well into top of the north face one. I can wear the 48L one all day lo...

Bagging maps

Hi, Is there any way of getting a view of bagging maps with some detail on without lossing some of the peaks. If you zoom out on map you loose all detail and if you zoom in to next level then some get chopped off. See the two examples. thanks Paul Screenshot_2021-05-28 Wainwright summit bagging map(...

Re: Great Glen Way, do I need a water filter?

OASIS water purification tablets, there cheap £1 or £2 a strip. Used them years ago and still alive :), I keep some in rucksack. Only a very slight chlorine taste, no where as bad as i thought they'd be

Old Man of Storr

I'd rate this route as 1 out of 4, the wife would probably say 3, so lets compromise at 2 out of 4 then. We actually started off from Glen Morrison and drove to Skye, weather looked good, Ive never seen the sun shine on Skye before so it would be a rare event for us. Maybe i was a little naive think...

Re: Walking boots and the Holy Grail

Ive also got a pair of the scarpa boots and had them for several years in all conditions and their brilliant, previous boots being made by Raichle (forget which ones) and lasted for years. Allways gone for full leather and not that bothered about gortex lining, if its full thick leather i'm quite ha...

Re: Knne Injuries

slightly unrelated as i had a clicking knee joint some years ago, used to annoy the hell out of me running up and down stairs at work, someone suggested cod-liver oil and i remembered my mum used to take it as well, so gave it a try, after several years joints did start to feel and sound better, kno...

Re: Highlands v Chilterns

Highlands everytime, sorry to all "the southerners" but i worked down in south of England for 30+ years, dreadful, longed for the north. Now made it to Lake District to live, mountains much better but still not as good as highlands.

Re: Waterproofs

The jacket is over 18 years old so i guess i shouldn't complain but can Gortex fabric wear thin ? or just wear out like other fabrics ? Jings, crivvens, etc. ~ I guess you got your money's worth there! Well my wife did call me a "Tight wad" when she realised how old it was and heard me mo...

Re: Waterproofs

Funny but i was just about to post a topic on Gortex ! I have a Gortex jacket that has served me well but in the last year or so its started to loose its water repellent abilities. I did wash it with a recommended suitable tech-wash and followed instructions exactly. It made a slight improveme...

Re: Walkhighlands routes and 'OS Maps' application

Absolutely appalling !, Have they not heard of copyright ?. What walks/routes i produce are mine and the choice to share should be mine not automatically taken from me. Just off to their website to check and if no option to make themm private they'll be deleted.

Re: Boots (new and failed)

Thanks, did that, now ALL SORTED, matter now resolved, got full refund plus cost of sending them back to HQ.

Took money off to small independent shop and got sorted out with new pair, actually Hanwag's which apparently are most comfortable of the dozen or so tried, and appear robust and well made.

Re: Boots (new and failed)

Well I spoke to trading standards/CAB and now legal letter gone off to Go HQ, waiting for 14 days for response before considering small claims court. Following repair, the boots have been on 1 more walk and it was 5 miles, as I expected the repair failed and soles now coming off again, so 5 walks of...

Re: Boots (new and failed)

you'd be even more shocked if you saw state of repair !. Got them back yesterday, couldnt really see in shop, when got them home under a bright light you can see they've basically re-glued the original sole (heal part) back onto the failing midsole. I doubt they will last more than 1 or 2 walks befo...
