Re: Cape Wrath Trail 2023

Hi, I am thinking of attempting the CWT during May 2024. Similar age currently 65. I completed my round of munro`s in 2019 after 30 years and did plan the CWT route in 2020 but covid put pay to that and have been thinking about it now for a year or two. These days not as fit as I once was but a regu...

Re: Cape Wrath May 2023

Hi Duncan, Thanks for your report on the CWT I had planned to do the trail back in 2020 but covid came along. I am now looking at doing the CWT next year again May which I think is the best month for Scotland hill walking having completed the munro`s back in 2019. Good to hear the midges are not par...

Re: Irish Munro`s

Hi Ghotay, Good luck on your full traverse that will be a very big full day out. Yep we did 2 big horseshoes to complete the Irish munro`s and they were great fun with fantastic ridge walking mixed in with some difficult scrambling. It is a good comparison to Crib Goch for the difficult scrambles. T...

Re: Paps of Jura

Hello, I did the Paps of Jura a few years ago with friends and we found the route very tough and a serious full day out in the mountains, a couple of people turned back after Beinn Shiantaidh but the rest of the group carried on and overall the going was very tough but did improve later on. A good p...

Re: Meindl Boots - rubber boot banding repair

Hello, I had the same problem last year with my Meindl boots and after a little research on the Walk Highlands website, I purchased some glue that seems to be reasonably successful. It was a bit fiddley but I did managed to re-attach the rubber rand to the boots. Only time will tell how successful t...

Re: Slieve Donard +

Thanks Broggy,

Excellent photos and a good hill report on the Mourne Mountains.

I hope to arrange a trip there next year after enjoying a fantastic 10 day trip to Ireland earlier this year to the Macgillycuddy`s Reeks in brilliant sun-shine and no rain during the entire trip.

Cheers

Irish Munro`s

Irish Munro Odyssey Towards the end of May 2023 a team of 8 brave members of the Innominata Mountaineering Club based in Stockport set off on a quest to climb the 14 Munros in Ireland. The peaks were in Wicklow, Kerry (with the formidable Macgillycuddy’s Reeks mountain range) and Tipperary. The Ferr...

Re: Silva dry map case

In order to close the silva dry map case, it is very tricky but I have found that if you hold the map case in both hands and place one thumb at the back of the seal and bend the seal over your thumb - this seems to open up the seal sufficiently to push the seal in properly. Start at one end and work...

Re: Silva dry map case

Thanks for your comments.
I have managed now to close the Silva dry map case after researching the various reviews for these product but it is very fiddly and awkward to use.
I wish I have undertaken a review before making this purchase.
I would not recommend the Silva dry map case products at all.

Silva dry map case

Hi, does anyone own one of these dry map cases? I recently purchased a new map case from Silva and I can't close the map case despite several attempts at home. There must be a knack to do this, can anyone offer any tips? The product looks good but it is not really going to be any better than a zip l...

Lost glasses on Beinn Lora (Deirdre`s Hill)

My thanks to the person or persons who found my friend glasses that were left on the trig point on top of Beinn Lora (Deirdre`s Hill), Benderloch near Oban on Monday 5 July 2021 and left them on the notice board in the carpark at the start of this lovely little walk (Walk No.7 in Scotland`s 100 Best...

Re: Is it worth taking a chance?

I booked the KinlochHourn B&B last May 2020 but sadly my plans to walk along the Cape Wrath Trail were cancelled due to Covid and they did not refund my deposit last year. They were happy to allow me to rebook in 2021 but that is not looking to good at the moment, maybe later this year!! Check t...

Re: Is April a good time to hike to the very North of Scotla

I prefer May generally as the best month for better weather than April, however it canbe very cold at night if you are camping and very few midges. The middle towards the end of April is not far behind. I would recommend `Skin-so-Soft` to deal with any midges encountered along your route. This also ...
