Re: Resoling Alt-Bergs

As KatTai says, it’s when you begin to feel you are slipping and notice you are running out of tread.

I had mine resolved after 2 years, as well as having the rands replaced, but I had done over 50 Munros, plus many other Tops, Corbetts etc so they had done a fair few miles.

Parking for Carn glas-Choire

The parking area for the Fiona Carn Glas-Choire, as described by Weaselmaster in his reports, and in the SMC book 'The Grahams and the Donalds' now has gates fitted with a padlock.

It is possible to park here without blocking the gates, and space for 2 well parked, or 1 badly parked, car.

Re: The Age of Miracles

The parking area you used for Carn glas-Choire now has gates and a padlock on it.

Possible to get 1, and possibly at a push 2, cars just outside the gates without blocking them

Re: The Highlands don't need or want parking charges!

I am, on balance, in favour of looking to have a modest 'tourist tax' of some kind to contribute to the council cost of keeping rural car parks, loo's, paths, signs etc operating. Agreed. Folk can moan about vehicles overnighting til the cows come home, and similar moans about paying to park, but t...

Re: Mullardoch boat

No, but hopefully he is recovered from his injuries. You maybe best emailing him direct to see if he is able to work this year. I did the 4 Munros on the North side of Loch Mullardoch last year, and the walk back to the dam at the end of the day seemed to take forever. There were also a couple of sm...

Re: Best route for the remote Glen Affric Munro Tops

Thanks Fiona for this information. I am assuming the 11.5 hours round trip was the walk time from the YH? That was start to finish. From memory the cycle part was about 90 mins each way with a bit of shoving. Prob about 3 hours cycling then 8.5 hours walking. Sacks were left at the foot of An Socac...

Re: Best route for the remote Glen Affric Munro Tops

Thanks for the responses, and the route from Prog99 as it is always useful to see how someone else has done this.

Best route for the remote Glen Affric Munro Tops

I am planning on heading into the Alltbeithie Youth Hostel in late May / early June with a view to doing the 2 Western Glen Affric Munros and all their tops. I was contemplating heading up to the Belach to Sgurr Nan Coathramhnan and onwards to Stuc Fraoch Choire, heading down Druid Bheag and the ENE...

Re: Bheinn Mhanach River Crossings

If you are worried about the water crossings, but using a bike (or not), have you considered parking at Pubil and going along Loch Lyon? From memory there are a couple of shallow streams to cross

Re: Hill o Fare

We were up here on 04/11/23 and came down from Meikle Tap on the Walkhighlands route.
The ‘path’ is very guttery/channelled in places with a fair bit of water flowing down. Not a pleasant descent, and after a lot of rain it may be best avoided.

I am in the Newburgh North of Aberdeen (not Fife) hence the Inverness route

Sgurr a'Mhaoraich

We left Newburgh just before 7am, and had a pretty decent drive through, although the car hardly registered any temperature above 3deg C all the way to past Inverness. Heading West from Invergarry on the minor road we were slightly delayed by a single Highland cow which was slowly ambling along in t...
