Re: Manor via Dead Wife’s Grave and Posso Rig

Enjoyed this walk but there is a lot of active tree felling during the first part, up the Drove Road to Dead Wife's Grave. The landscape is pretty scalped. But great to see parts of the hills I haven't visited before. First proper walk of the year and I definitely need to build my fitness back up!!...

I remember it well......that was one of my favourite signs!

And another......in Glen Arnisdale near Corran on Loch Hourn there are a couple of estate bridges with odd signs;

Re: The silliest sign you've seen on a walk?

I am sure that many moons ago there used to be a sign at the eastern end of the Strathconan road (which is a long dead-end going west) that said "This road does not go to the Ballachulish Ferry" Anyone else remember that?

Re: Dangerous rockfalls and erosion

Many thanks. I have been a fairly regular visitor to Luing over the years and was aware that the coastal path was gradually disapearing so I guess its now almost gone. For others benefit here's the view from the trig point mentioned.

Re: Closure of Hopes Reservoir car park, East Lothian

See Guardian article https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/dec/01/scottish-landowner-who-obstructs-public-access-ma...

Re: White Coomb and its tops

Error - correction to my post above - the book 'Birkhill - A Reminiscence' was written by C R B McGilchrist. Isaac Cooke was the illustrator.

Re: White Coomb and its tops

Given the route you took I thought this might be of interest and the text below is from a book called ‘Birkhill’ by one Isaac Cook (my copy is from 1905). Birkhill being the cottage at the county boundary just up the A708 and back in the day they took in visitors, walkers and fisher folk. “As you cr...

Re: blister prevention

My solution, which has worked successfully for a very large part of my long walking life, is to wear a pair a lightweight sports socks inside your hiking socks. These fit tight to the foot so prevent rubbing. Remember its not the boots that cause blisters but the socks as these are the part that gen...

Golden Eagle in the Moorfoots

Observed about two-thirds of the way up the South Esk valley track (around NT 296501) going south from Moorfoot Farm by Gladhouse Reservoir, an immature Golden Eagle. Most likely one from the South of Scotland Eagle project. Still showing some of the white underwing spots and tail. Perfectly observe...

Re: Walkerburn Footbridge No More

The Geograph photo shows what remains of the former railway bridge, long gone. The timber footbridge was just off the left hand buttress.
