Anyone for a Gentle, Scenic Road Walk?
As the title suggests this is a gentle, scenic road walk starting and ending at Carfraemill near Lauder. I thought this might be of interest to those living in the Edinburgh area who are looking for something easy to walk on a sunny day. Suitable for those like me who are of more advanced years! or ...

Re: Broad Law from Hearthstane?
Its been a few years since I went up that way so my knowledge of gates is not current (like my memory!) but using Multimap aerial view you can see there’s what looks like a cattle grid at the upper edge of the wood so it follows that there’s also a gate and fence but whether its open or not?? You co...

Re: Closure of Hopes Reservoir car park, East Lothian
There's a list of ELC public roads here https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/263162/response/648255/attach/3/East%20Lothian%20List%20of%20Roads.pdf and in that there is road reference C98 (01) from Longyester School (C99) to West Hopes, see map below. If the description is correct and "West H...

Re: Closure of Hopes Reservoir car park, East Lothian
Just wondering if anyone knows the current status of the car parking/access at Hopes Reservoir? I've not been out that way recently and with spring approaching and Covid receding (says he hopefully!) it would be good to know if the previous access problems have been resolved.

Re: West Linton Parking Area Coned Off
Passed the end of the gold club road in West Linton yesterday, 16 January, and parking on this short stretch of road has now been reinstated. Don't know when this happened but it looks as if things are back to normal. I can only assume that the parking ban was an over-zealous reaction to Covid.

Re: Penvalla from Stobo
You can also go up from Woolshears wood(NT 14237 43651) and do a nice loop with Broughton Heights and various other bumps. I was walking Woolshears Wood tracks a few weeks ago and they are now felling the southern part of the forest on the east side of Flint HIll near where the path comes in from S...

Re: Lead mine walk in very wet conditions
Update information: The lower bridge over the Strontian River is closed for safety reasons, seems to be some sort of structural issue, so the return walk down the east side of the river is not possible at present. Otherwise its still all as written above, even the dodgy old bridge up by the lead min...

Re: Closure of Hopes Reservoir car park, East Lothian
Just to add to the saga the local website https://www.oldhamstocksvillage.com/blog/hopes-reservoir-car-park-closure indicates that Scottish Water have an issue with water quality at Hopes Reservoir which requires emergency treatment work and the car park will need to be closed for the duration of th...

Re: Feeling the heat in the Manor Valley
The Manor valley is one of the finest places in the Scottish Borders, scenic, historic, quiet (most of the time!). You clearly had a fine day. For some unknown reason my legs are refusing to tackle these bigger hills these days but the memories remain......

Re: Blair Atholl
What's happening with the Bridge of Tilt Hotel? Stayed there in maybe 2014, 2015, and it was ok for what it was, which was a very cheap Groupon voucher deal. Last I heard there was talk of a full refurb, but that was pre-Covid. I was in Blair Atholl just yesterday doing a walk up Glen Tilt and the ...

Re: Closure of Hopes Reservoir car park, East Lothian
The article in the East Lothian Courier includes a response from a spokesperson for East Lothian Council who indicated that the council will investigate the allegations of ‘blocking’ (of the public road) near the Hopes access. I wonder if anything will come of this? Not that I can see East Lothian C...
