Re: Family wanting to get into hiking

Lairig ghru comes to mind as well as the chalamain gap although that one is not that easy. Not difficult but rocky. That is quite a spread distance wise already so difficult to know which side of the cairngorms you are on as they are the biggest obstacle to travel. Finding lochs is always goo as the...

Re: Ryvoan Bothy and Lochan Uaine in the April Sunshine

Been a while since I was there as it can be a busy place.

Did the meal a'bhuachaille route which you hinted at climbing although I first went to craiggowrie. Probably easier going up meal a'bhuachaille first IIRC the steps are quite steep.

At least you got the weather going your way.

Re: Landslide and ‘closed’ but being cleared and passable!

Not really surprising. Haven't been there for a while myself but "Closed" in that part of the world rarely means that. Means someone who does not venture outside thinks it should be.

Re: a very short unimaginable walk

Damn, that was crazy how long you got to experience them. I had my back to the sky before I noticed them and then got some photos but for a much shorter time. Like rainbow portals in the sky is how they appear to me. Photos never do it justice. https://i.postimg.cc/tRLcvhQ2/IMGP8971.jpg

Re: Shared Rural Network

This sounds like someone placing pins on a 2-d map based on signal strength, which would be an utterly bizarre way of doing things. Maybe I did not read enough on it but that is what it sounds like.

Re: Asking for trouble

Descending the boulder field on the south slope of Macdui with a bike in tow would be suicide. I naively went up it once and that was bad enough. Apparently the eastern side is better but still.

Re: Carn Dearg (Monadhliath) from Newtonmore

The Glen Banchor area was quite nice by my recollection although I made a meal of it and went up the quite steep Carn Macoul and then down the boggy Gleann Ballach.

Windy Hills, Woodhead near Fyvie

As this walk is not on the Walkhighlands site and is a little out of the way I thought I would make a walk report on it. It should take most people a little less time as I have quite a stubborn dog accompanying me. There are some issue which I will note with it but for the most part it is a nice qui...

Re: The Dangers of Forest Walks in High Wind

Aye, that guy needs to maybe step back a bit and not let the dog get potentially crushed. Generally forests are always a hazard that people need to be aware of. Personally I avoid it during a storm and I also avoid parking my car underneath trees during high winds. Still, it is peoples choice and pe...

Re: Hart Fell when you're scared of heights (doggy style)

Saddle yoke at times I went down on my rear end as it really was steep for me, not Foinaven in sutherland steep, but bad enough. I think there was a small fence down the slope a bit and I thought if I did go down one side to aim for that one. I think this is it in profile correct? https://i.postimg....

Re: inequality access study

No, of course not. Attending an educational establishment matters not if you do not learn anything.

What even is this series of posts?

Are you referring to uneducated or educated neds as you get idiots in all classes of society.

If someone behaves like an idiot, can they really be classed as educated?

Re: Sgùrr a' Mhaoraich (And back the same way)

The views in the area are great and well worth the drive down that road. I only did the hill next to it Buidhe Bheinn but it excellent all the same.
