Re: Munro Weather Forecasting

I did the circuit of Coire Nan Cat in the Lawers hills today, wind was forecast to be 45km/h.
That was PLENTY strong enough on the ridge summit for me.
I was being blown off course in the gusts.

Great circuit though 👍

Re: Downloading GPX routes

Much obliged for all of the help and recommendations, thanks. I’ve now installed GPX viewer on my IPhone and can download routes from this forum / website into it and view them. I can also now download and install routes into Outdooractive and view them, not sure if I’ll also take the Pro version of...

Re: Downloading GPX routes

Thanks Gordie I’ll give that a go. I also had a look at Outdooractive, ( replacing ViewRanger) and it appears that files from this forum/website can be downloaded into it. I got slightly lost last week in thick clag on the Beinn a Ghlo 3 , with that experience and the walker getting lost near Ben Ma...

Downloading GPX routes

Please excused the Luddite questions about to follow…. Re the downloadable GPX routes on the forum, what hardware do I need to use them ? I’ve got an iPad and IPhone, a Garmin Etrex30, are they suitable? I dowloaded a file but when I opened it it is was just text, I was kinda hoping it would somehow...

Re: New boots - some advice please

Thanks all.
A few valid points above that I’d not considered to ponder before making my decision.

New boots - some advice please

I started a topic some weeks back regarding my Berghaus Brasher GTX boots leaking. After further investigation it turned out it was the actual boots that were leaking. They came with a “lifetime” waterproof guarantee. I’d bought them in 2017 from Blacks Dundee so took them back there with my receipt...

Re: West Drumochter 4 - bike at one end ?

I did them yesterday intending to camp in the hills overnight as I’d done A bhuidheanach-bheag and Cairn na Caim in the morning, thinking I’d be a bit tired to finish the 4, but the weather turned so decided to press on and finish them. When I got back to the A9 I’d wished I’d left the bike but didn...

West Drumochter 4 - bike at one end ?

I’m thinking about doing the west Drumochter 4 tomorrow, I’ve read a couple of reports saying it’s a bit of a trudge back up the A9 to the car.
I’ll have the bike with me, any suggestions as to where I could leave it to enable a cycle back to the car when I come off the hills ?

Re: Beinn a Ghlo 3 from Glenn Tilt ?

Thanks folks.
I was hoping there’d be a reasonable option to do it from Glen Tilt 👌 👍

Beinn a Ghlo 3 from Glenn Tilt ?

I’m intending on cycling up Glen Tilt to Forest lodge to climb Carn a Chlamain.
I’m wondering if the Beinn a Ghlo 3 are accessible from Forest lodge area rather than go back down the glen and approach from loch Moraig ?

Re: Wet feet - boots ok

Turns out my gaiters are as waterproof as a tea bag.
Tried spraying with a hose and within a minute could feel wet trousers underneath.
On checking them I could see the plasticky rubberised coating on the inside was worn off in various places.
Birthday coming up so new ones are on the list 👍

Re: Wet feet - boots ok

Thanks for the replies.
I think a test with boots , gaiters and a hose is in the offing before I venture into the hills again 🤔
If my gaiters are soaking up water then I’m going to get wet trousers and socks .

Wet feet - boots ok

On Tuesday I walked Bynack More and Cairn Gorm in thick mist . Before setting off I donned my boots, tucked my trousers into my socks then put on my gaiters, lastly my waterproof overtrousers. Within a mile or two trudging through wet heather and wet grass I could feel my feet getting wet, by the ti...
