Re: Rockfall on Askival

Thanks jmarkb

Hey rockfall isn't unusual on Rum but this looks very impressive and must be one of the larger rockfalls in recent years in Scotland.

Cheers WH crew quick to respond as usual.

Rockfall on Askival

I was up climbing Ainshval by Sandy Corrie on rum at the weekend and noticed the west side of Askival has had a massive rockfall. The release point was around 50m from the summit and carried in two gullies down to the Atlantic Corrie. These look like fresh scars (it's been a very wet May) and I'm po...

Re: Ainshval,Ruinsival - Rum

Hello Gordon Thanks for your advice and I returned yesterday in what was probably the best weather day Rum has seen all May. What a difference to the low cloud, winds or ice that stalled my assent of this wonderful mountain. I had the place to myself and just perfect views from the top. Rum is a pla...

Re: Ainshval,Ruinsival - Rum

Hi I've just returned from my third attempt on Ainshval and this time from the Sandy Corrie that it looks like you went up or down. I got to about 610m in thick cloud and at the low point it got rather steep which wasn't for my partner! It looks steep on the map but well within even my limited abili...

Re: The Rough Bounds Conundrum

'MTB'd in from Poulary through the now felled forest to Glen Kingie' I did this a few years ago to climb Sgurr an Fhuarain and it's a great cycle but dry conditions would be best. In and out in the same day was about 7 hours for me. It's always fun to seek out different approaches to get to wild are...

Re: the C word

Having just returned from the Creag Meagaidh car park and a path walk with young children in fresh air, observing social distancing I've had a total rethink following the Lochaber Mountain Rescue advice. The car park was at peak summer levels for visitors and it seems time to rethink our individual ...

Re: Rum Bunkhouse

Making contact can be a issue winter but having been there late last year I turned up and only five in the bunkhouse so plenty of room. It's a wonderful bunkhouse and the limited contact I had with the part time staff was extremely positive.

Re: Isle of Rum Sandy Corrie

Thanks Rockhopper but it wasn't Sandy Corrie the way they came down.

Still and interesting link though.

Cheers

Isle of Rum Sandy Corrie

I've just arrived back from two glorious days on the Isle of Rum and chilly overnight stay at Dibidil bothy, which was magic. This time of year the island was deserted with only 4 overnight visitors on the island and one being the lovely school teacher. So I tried to climb Ainshval from the bothy an...

Baseball cap Geal Charn Laggan

It might only be a baseball cap but having been with me on over 200 hill trips its my dear friend. Lost on the summit of Geal Charn north west of Laggan just over a week ago. :( :( Its a light fawn in colour and I'd be more than happy to pay for it to be posted and a reward sent as I'm sure you all ...
