Re: Rannoch Moor to Oban along Glen Etive

Interesting through route, enjoyed your story. But the old road continues for several Km’s west of Allt na Feidhe, just up the slope from the A82. This would have got you close to the Lost Valley, or let you walk through the Lairg Gartain or the Lairg Eilde rather than following the road down Glen ...

Re: Rannoch Moor to Oban along Glen Etive

Thanks Colin

I considered the SE shore of Loch Etive but read quite a few reports saying it was much harder walking, so opted for the opposite shore. But you may well be corrct. Another time possibly.

Rannoch Moor to Oban along Glen Etive

Rannoch Moor station to Oban along Glen Etive I was curious to discover Glen Etive as I noticed how often it cropped up when people were asking for suggested walks. I had visited Glencoe and Rannoch Moor previously, but never walked along Glen Etive. So this was my opportunity. I chose mid-Septembe...

Affric Kintail Way from west to east

Day 1: Shiel Bridge to Alltbeithe Hostel. 19.5 kms 476m ascent Having stayed overnight in Inverness, I am at the bus station in good time for the journey to Shiel Bridge and the start of my walk. The weather is good and the bus journey pleasant alongside Loch Ness then turning west to Shiel Bridge....

Re: A Cape Wrath Tale: The travelling stone

A great report and photos. Well done on such an achievement. It brings back so many memories. And congratulations on getting engaged on the Trail; how wonderful. Written from the perspective of a solitary pebble picked up at the start of the Trail and carried all the way to the finish gives it a nov...

Re: CWT Stage 3 at nearly 73: Oykel Bridge to the Cape

Hi Folkswoodway. Only just spotted and read your kind comments on my post. I wish I had known about that alternative route to Richonich! It would have saved me an uncomfortable night. Still, all's well that ends well, and getting to the Cape made it all worthwhile. My next adventure is TGO challenge...

CWT Stage 3 at nearly 73: Oykel Bridge to the Cape

I completed the first stage of the Cape Wrath Trail last year (May 2021) from Fort William to Strathcarron, and the second stage from Strathcarron to Oykel Bridge in May this year. You can read about these in my earlier reports. I had intended to complete the trail from Strathcarron in one go, but i...

Cape Wrath Trail: Stage 2 at 72 Strathcarron to Oykel Bridge

I completed the first stage of the Cape Wrath Trail last year (May 2021) from Fort William to Strathcarron. You can read about it in my report: ‘Cape Wrath Trail: Stage one at 71’. I subsequently returned in May 2022 hoping to complete the trail from Strathcarron to the Cape. However, if you read on...

Re: Cape Wrath Trail: Stage one at 71!

Sgurr. Thanks for your comments. You are quite correct on the Falls of Glomach not being UK's highest. I took it from the guide book which states "the largest drop of any waterfall in the UK". I'm not sure if 'drop' is different from 'highest' but I will amend my report to call it the thir...

Re: Cape Wrath Trail: Stage one at 71!

Thanks. Kinlochewe will be too early if I am starting at Strathcarron, but Oykel Bridge would be perfect. 👍

Re: Cape Wrath Trail: Stage one at 71!

Thanks for you comments on my report. Yes, I do intend to do both the final stages from Strathcarron to the Cape all in one go next April/May. Like you, I am working on my fitness as I had let it slip during lockdown so felt under-prepared this year. 20kgms is really heavy. I got my base weight (bef...

Re: Cape Wrath Trail: Stage one at 71!

Thanks revalation.

My hope now is to complete it next year, in on go. I am working on my fitness, happy with my gear, but as always the weather is key. Also, next time I will not have such a fixed timetable. If I need an extra day I will take it.

Good luck with your plans.

Re: Cape Wrath Trail: Stage one at 71!

Thabnks Jim. Good to hear from you. Yes, a good trip, but hard in places. I still look back on Nepal as the best trip I have done. Stay safe.
