Re: Scotland: (tentative) July 3rd date for end of 5-mile ru

Was in Lake District last week and even some of the lesser visited hills were reasonably busy. On a route where I’d expect to see 6-10?people I met/saw about 40 people. I could see across to the top of Helvellyn and there was a continuous line of figures on the ridge. As desperate as I am to get bac...

Re: New Coronavirus Law

Who makes the judgement as too whether or not somebody is ill equipped. It’s very much a personnel matter. What didn’t they have with them on a hot Saturday in Scotland. Water or another refreshing drink. Map and/or compass. If you've been up the same hill 100 times and it’s a nice sunny day would y...

Re: Navigation Help for a total Newbie

My advice is to start with some really short walks using a map and compass, initially I did this in a few local fields only a few hundred metres long and build up your trust and faith and knowledge of the compass. It's really easy to over rely on a GPS or phone app. Once you've done a few shorter tr...

Re: Cairngorm blitz -- bruised and battered, but not broken

There aren't too many that would that carried on in those conditions, feeling as you did, so well done to you. Most definitely the toughest day I've ever had on the hills and not one that I'd ever hope to repeat. No way would I set out to walk that distance in good conditions but as I like to say it...

Re: A weeks holiday in Glencoe. 1.5.16 to 6.5.16

Hi Martin, I'm planning on being in that area (Scotland) from 3rd May until 9th and could travel to join you for a day. I've looked at the map and done several that you suggested on your itinerary, however there are some that I haven't completed yet. I'm happy to try and fit around your plans. Keep ...

Is this road accesible.

Just needed some advice, Hoping to walk up Stuchd an Lochain on Friday and was just wondering if the road towards Loch an Daimh along River Lyon through Invervar and Bridge of Balgie is clear of snow. Don't have four wheel drive vehicle so will only attempt to drive along if safe. I've driven along ...

Re: Overnight parking

An interesting issue. I'm a serving police Sgt who now works in a semi rural location and quite often have to deal with members of the public reporting cars left for several days in these rural locations. The person at the front desk who questioned your decision to call in and alert police was wrong...

Re: Mullardoch twelve

Did this route last year over 3 days. Great time and no problems getting over any water hazards despite rain before and during the walk. One issue to bear in mind is a lack of water on the hills. Enjoy yourself, Jimmy

Re: Advice needed - Munro's in Skye

Hi Socks, Not able to gauge your experience and knowledge based on only a couple of lines of text. I'll specifically avoid using words like 'easy' or 'hard' as I've learnt one persons easy can be another persons very hard and I think people can tend to downplay things (don't know why, ask a psycholo...

Re: St Cuthberts Way

Hi, Would definitely choose Hadrian's Wall over St Cuthbert's Way for a historical walk. I did Hadrian's wall with my children a few years ago and we all really enjoyed ourselves. It's a beautiful area to walk around, can be rather busy in the Summer months which some people might find off-putting b...

Re: St Cuthberts Way

Done this particular route twice as I live in Northumberland and it's the closest National trail to my home. I would expect to do it in 4 days with a reasonable level of fitness. To be honest its not the best walk in the UK, but that's just my opinion. There's plenty of towns etc on route and gettin...

Re: Great Glen Way vs St Cuthbert's Way

Hi'

Done a lot of walking around this area as I live in Northumberland. Are you planning on camping or staying in B and B or hotels. How many legs have you broken this down to, I might consider joining you for a day if you fancy some company depending on your dates.
