Re: January Blues Above The Clouds

That was certainly worth your early start to drive up. What a day you got with the silver lining being that the usually boggy bits were frozen solid. I really like your fifth photo just before the first summit. cheers Dogplodder. :D Aye, always a positive when the usual bog mentioned in t...

January Blues Above The Clouds

3am alarms for anything in life are always a struggle. Work definitely, holidays and days on the hills slightly bearable. But today, this was not for any type of day in the hills. The forecast from MWIS and every other weather outlet was pointing towards one prediction. Blue skies, inversions and tr...

Re: Who to trust?

Met Office Mountain Weather is the most negative of them all. It could be wall to wall sunshine and they'd still show clouds. No time for that negativity in my life  As has been said above, MWIS for a general feel for the area you're looking at and Mountain Forecast for specific hills (or at le...

Re: Midge forecast, when would Spring come?

You'll no doubt be glad to see its now up and running. Accuracy is debatable. Considering their website recommends a product for keeping midges at bay, you'd think they'd be exaggerating the forecast, not downplaying it. But aye, accuracy is very debatable. Must be sitting next to a fan, indoors.

Re: Midge forecast, when would Spring come?

They were out in force on Saturday night at Traigh beach near Arisaig.

On a side note, a forecast for midges? Do people base their plans around this?

Re: Parking Cluanie Inn

There isn't a right to park on private land. As I said, happy to make a contribution by paying for a service, was more looking for info on whether or not anybody had had bother for leaving the car there all day. Not really fussed about the fuel price either. I know some folk in the highlands who ra...

Re: Glencoe hillwalkers fined for travel violation.

Come off it... Travelling from West Lothian where cases have been sky high to do Tinto (literally busier than most high streets now) is not comparable to travelling from Thurso to do, e.g. Fraochaidh. Ahh, referencing an unpopular hill in your example to justify allowing a c380 mile round trip. Mr ...

Re: Glencoe hillwalkers fined for travel violation.
