Re: GPS device

A Garmin Extrex 10 ticks all your boxes, but to be honest a phone does all that too. :? On most ultras it is mandatory to have a fully charged phone as part of your kit, no idea how strict they are with that at each section of the races, so my thinking is a separate handheld to avoid extra drain on...

I've a couple of older garmin GPS devices that I never use, I'll dig em out, you can have one if you want, no probs. Sorry for the late reply, thanks for the offer and very much appreciated but it turned out the wife got me the Garmin eTrex se for Xmas. It seems she does listen and managed to pick ...

AyrshireAlps wrote:Why handheld, out of interest?.

My eyesight is getting worse as I get older, so looking for a big, basic screen that provides all that is needed. I have GPS watches and struggle to see most of the data on the screens. So looking for a dedicated GPS I can stick in my vest pocket and used as needed.

GPS device

I'm looking for a a GPS device for hiking and running as I'm looking at doing some remote hikes and ultras next year. Needs to be small, shows altitude, grid reference, auto compass, be able to load routes and shows direction and how close to the line you are. Don't need maps as I use my phone app f...

I don't remember any plantations being overly close how far away is it? Is the route affected by it? Might just do corserine if it is.

Cairnsmore of Carsphairn.

Anyone been up recently? Last time I was up, there was a lot of excavation work going on and it was a bit of a mess to say the least. Would rather avoid if still the same I will probably go up corserine instead.

Cheers.

Re: Who to trust?

Met office and mountain forecast were pretty much spot on, weather was great. Unfortunately hike didn't go to plan, I underestimated the scrambling for my dog, although is very capable in the hills having over done over 100 he is big, over 40kg. We got up to about 750m when we got to a near vertical...

Re: Who to trust?

Latest forecasts have the rain staying a bit further south - with easterly winds, I would be inclined to give it a try, with maybe a Plan B is the cloud is too low. Sgurr a' Choise and Meall Mor is a good option in such circumstances! Gonna go for it, mer office is showing it should be fairly decen...

Who to trust?

I want to do the 2 Munro's at ballachulish tomorrow. Met office is looking like it's fairly decent, MWIS is lot more gloomier.

It's almost a 4 HR drive and don't fancy a washout for most of the day.

So who do you trust in this scenario?

Re: Conditions underfoot for Cobbler and Ime?

davekeiller wrote:Here's a webcam feed from Crianlarich https://www.benmorewebcam.co.uk/
Given conditions there, I'd say you'll be fine on the cobbler given that it's both further south and lower.

Ben more has all but cleared in the last month so fair to assume the cobbler and ime will be as well.

Thanks.
