Reindeer surprise

Creagan a' Chaise summit, May 2017 IMG_2994b.JPG My first time on the Cromdales was a beauitiful spring day climbing Creagan a' Chaise with Evelyn and Moira. I'd assumed we'd be back sometime to do its northern twin but the route description put us off and there was always something more appealing w...

Re: Acting the Goat @ 75 - prelude to a mass Arran exodus

Another ripping yarn from Graeme D and congratulations to Jeanette celebrating her 75th climbing Goatfell! As one about to turn 76 I can confirm it's much more of an achievement as the years pile on! Isn't it great when family occasions lend themselves to climbing a new hill? I managed to fit...

Re: Small but Feisty: the rugged little hills of Flowerdale

That was great to read and see the photos of. I climbed An Groban with three of our kids on a family holiday in the late 1980s. Don't have the exact year and it was before I routinely carried a camera. Apart from the rocky steepness of it and the great views what I most remember about it was manhand...

Ancient rocks, young lives and changing seasons

Where do you go with a mixed ability group including a 4 year old, three dogs and a baby, for a short walk with views? Quite a few options but on this occasion we went for an old favourite, Knockfarrel. It has good paths, points of interest and great views. We started at the Blackmuir Wood Forestry ...

Re: Storm changed our plans but it was so worth it

Got back to Brodie today and despite gusts of wind blowing seats over in the outside cafe it was a beautiful sunny afternoon, such a tonic after all the rain! :D

Re: To beaver or not to beaver - that is the question

Hi DP I lived in Blairgowrie for 11 years from 1992 and never once considered doing this walk - it looks Ok!! Up until I got fixated with Glen Esk two years ago, my go to route was near Dunkeld. I used to start from the car park in the dark about 40 minutes before dawn. Going through the woods at t...

Re: The Black Mount Duo

Well done on report of the month! Hope that goes some way to make up for the disappointment of having your camping spot invaded by ignorant numpties.... and well done for removing some of their rubbish too.

To beaver or not to beaver - that is the question

The forecast was for rain all day and it did as warned without a break until about 3.00 pm. The dog was needing a walk so we ventured out to follow the Ardblair Trail which can be accessed close to the cottage. Newton Cottage IMG_5485b.JPG Next door to Newton Castle (taken on a different day) IMG_54...

Re: It's a dog's life on Mount Blair

She sounds an excellent companion for walking up and down hills. I'm not sure they're all like that. 8) She came from a keeper in Glen Esk and being a typical food obsessed lab was easy to train. She's pretty tuned to me and knows what I expect but can be a bit excitable around other people if they...

Re: Astonishing Assynt: Two nights at Suileag & a Canisp cli

These photos are gorgeous and given the weather you had do fair justice to a stunning part of the planet. I went up Canisp by the easier route but can see that, apart from the sudden reveal of Sulven about two thirds of the way up, you went by the more scenic route! :D

Gremlins at work.... or was it the Green Lady?

Something very strange just happened. I had loaded up my photos and was adding some text when suddenly everything became jumbled with some photos missing and others not relating to the text I'd put them with. It's frustrating as sorting it out is time consuming and sometimes it's easier to scrap it ...

It's a dog's life on Mount Blair

Descending into Glen Isla from Glas Maol, the rounded shape of Mount Blair appeared through the mist, which despite what the forecast said had lingered all day. Mount Blair seemed an overly grand name for a lowly Graham, but it nudged a memory that one of my kids had climbed it, which I hadn't. So w...

Storm changed our plans but it was so worth it

With Pete's mobility difficulties I'm looking for places where we can start off together and when he's had enough he can return to the car while I complete the route with the dog. This one's level paths were perfect for that and had the added advantage of a place to go for lunch after. We turned off...
