Re: iPod / MP3

I tend to listen to some choons on the way back after I've done the grafting.

Click on the Panoramic Webcam link on that page. The image you see initially is the Cairnwell. You have to scroll to get a glimpse of Glas Maol.

Walking & Landowners - some tips that might help

Some tips I have found useful that help keep my presence on the hills tolerable to landowners and those who make their living on the land. Some of it may seem blindingly obvious to you but they aren't to everyone. Please also see: http://www.outdooraccess-scotland.com/outdoors-responsibly/access-cod...

Re: Drinking water in the hills

For Scotland at least you can talk of cryptosporidium instead of giardia(which is a lot less common over here, unless the beavers have brought it-which does actually get monitored). Can't speak to beavers but dogs are the typical incubators / distributors of giardia in this country. Plenty crypto f...

Re: Bad blood and a shroud of ill-feeling on Turin Hill

The farmer got **** off at you because his sheep are ready to lamb and undue stress can cause spontaneous abortion, even this late. That's why he was shouting at you to get over the ******* fence. Just saying...

Re: Drinking water in the hills

- good or bad experiences with mountain streams Worst experience I had was with a wild hangover when I staggered out the door still wasted from the night before and forgot my water bottle... and flask... and chocolate. I did manage to slap 2 slices of ham between 3 slices of bread mind you. Go me. ...

Re: The Munros Are Moving

Didn't see this, but surely there's no way of getting lost if you just stick to the path that you're already on? Even if a path branches and you take the wrong one, there's very little chance of being truly lost in most of Scotland! Blindly following paths is usually how I end up getting lost. Have...

Re: Planning Cairngorms crossing: advise need

One thing - you CANNOT plan on a bothy being available. Often they are but they can also be stuffed full of people (and their dogs) who got there first and there might simply not be any room for you.

Re: Braemar Snow Gate 2013-03-10

Depending on how much processing power you need you might get away with pretty cheap shared reseller hosting. They tend to shut you down if you take up too many server resources  but if you are only curling a page every minute or so that will barely scratch the surface of what's available.

Can't you run it on a server rather than a PC?

Re: Online shopping - delivery charge chancers

I've actually tried to buy stuff (free uk mainland delivery) only to find they won't ship to Perthshire. Apparently the pack ponies we use up here can only get as far North as Stirling before they get eaten by bears and wolves or slaughtered for their meat by William Wallace.
