Route from the saddle at Loch Avon

It's due to be a good day tomorrow so I'm planning to walk to Ben Macdui from the ski centre, then drop down to Loch Etchachan, Loch Avon & then head along to the saddle then back to the ski centre. I've covered all of this terrain before, except from the saddle back to the ski centre. Is the ro...

Re: Newbie with sore legs and feet

With regards blisters, prevention is better. I tape up my heels with sport tape & kinesiology tape & have regularly done 40km walks since. I've not had a blister since taping up. Good quality merino socks help too.

Your legs will get used to the effort.

Re: Creag Meagaid?

I walked this last summer. I can't recall any significant water crossings or burns on the route.

Re: blisters & new boots needed?

Any update on the blister situation? Yes, blisters have gone. I use Sport tape on the afffected areas & then apply kinesiology tape over the top by wrapping my ankle / heel & ball of foot. The K tape has a really strong adhesive so even when my feet have got wet the tape has stayed in place...

Re: Clean hands for contact lenses while wild camping

I wear glasses most of the time but when i'm hiking, on holiday or doing sport wear contact lenses. I don't routinely wear them this way but I can keep these in for several days at a time including while sleeping without having to take them out. If my eyes get slightly dry I just add a couple of dro...

Re: blisters & new boots needed?

I too played football in my earlier days mate and learned back then the beauty of a thinner tighter pair of socks under the football sock stops the blisters. I was just wondering if you're using trekking poles during your longer hikes? If not could they help relieve some foot pressure and change yo...

Re: blisters & new boots needed?

No mentions of zinc oxide tape yet? Tape up your hotspots preemptively. But do make sure you use a good quality tape. Ive been out for 2 long walks this year, Both with my hot spots taped up with zinc oxide tape. The tape works great, no blisters & my feet were saturated on one occasion (poor c...

Re: blisters & new boots needed?

My Bhutans started shredding my feet and causing pain on the ball of the foot after about a year and a half. I've no idea what changed but the problem persisted despite upgraded the insole, changing lacing techniques, various sock combos etc. I also found the Bhutans were bad for retaining moisture...

Re: blisters & new boots needed?

Ouch. Blisters are normally the result of movement of skin against sock/boot, rather than pressure. So if changing insoles hasn't worked by stopping any movement, its probably not worth changing those again. I'd look at a few things; 1. Socks. You say "double lined". Is this like 1000 Mil...

blisters & new boots needed?

Hi everyone, I've been registered a while but 1st time poster. I've got a pair of Meindl Bhutans which are great boots & have saved my ankles countless times in the 50+ or so munros i've done in them in the last 2 years. I've had these professionally fitted & wear double lined socks, but I f...
