Re: Wild Boar

R.jpg Where my brain went immediately on mention of wild boar! Wild Boar is very tasty but you need to get it checked by a vet for some particularly nasty parasites. My Brother in law hunts them in Lithuania. He also hunts Beaver but that is another story. Are you related to Frank McAvenney perchan...

Good afternoon everyone! Long time WH user here, but first time forum poster ! We have booked Easter weekend at Cluanie Inn and although I know much can change in 2 weeks I just wonder what sort of conditions we should expect ? Re: The North Face

I am an ethnic minority in Scotland (Chinese) so I suppose I ought to weigh in on this one. I've never personally felt the hillwalking in Scotland to be unwelcoming or experienced any racism on the hills (the same can't be said for everyday life when I lived in a city). If anything, I've never met ...

Re: The North Face

The point isn't that Caucasians are unwelcoming, more that members of ethnic minorities themselves might feel uncomfortable in the countryside. It's becoming a tricky balancing act these days, promoting racial equality in Britain without taking it to the point of anti-white racism. Absolutely, memb...

Re: Needing help with routing 523 mile walk for fundraising

Check out the distances in the Long Distance Walks page here. The obvious route would be Inversnecky to Fort William on the Great Glen Way. The West Highland Way until it crosses the John Muir Way South of Loch Lomond. That will take you to Queensferry where you can pick up the Fife Coastal Path. I'...

Re: St. Cuthbert's Way, July 2013

What a great adventure. All those years ago! I'm hopefully doing this walk in April this year. As you say, its those little 'events' that really seem to stand out.

Re: Instead of Moray...but with some of its qualities?

I enjoyed two days on the Berwickshire Coastal Path. Based myself in Eyemouth and walked to Berwick upon Tweed bussed back to Eyemouth. Next day bussed to Cockburns path and walk to Eyemouth. Fantastic walk

Re: Scottish Big Five

On my recent trip to walk the Hebridean Way, I not only heard, but actually saw a Corncrake in a field next to the campsite near Barra International Airport. Very rare and native.
