Re: Glen fiddich estate is a disgrace to Scotland

I still think we should let the estate give us their side of the story. Their reply might go something like this - “Killing the thousands of pheasants we rear each year is perfectly legal, that’s what we rear them for - to blast out the sky for fun!. We also have to protect all those thousands of p...

Re: Glen fiddich estate is a disgrace to Scotland

Provenance of landowner is neither here nor there, an arse is an arse. Ann Gloag is a Scot, and a bigger arse you'll not find. I'd be reporting the owner. I’d love to report the owner, but doubt they’re doing anything particularly remarkable or illegal, just what goes on up and down the country on ...

Glen fiddich estate is a disgrace to Scotland

I was walking up the estate road to glen fiddich today, this is what I observed: traps everywhere, hidden at roadside, under piles of rocks, behind wooden boxes. Some were easily recognisable without any attempt to disguise them, others were less obvious to the untrained eye but all of them ready fo...

Re: Outdoor Access right to roam

Let’s not forget that large chunks of Scotland is snatched common land belonging to the people. It has been inherited generationally where it often continues to be mis managed to the benefit of nobody but the wealthy owners. A sign that says “private” means ‘cyclists and walkers welcome’ - I will co...

Re: Beginners winter munros advice

Ben Rinnes. Not quite a Munro (but irrelevant in terms of gaining experience), local to you and straightforward ascent. Depending on conditions ice axe and crampons may not be needed and opportunity for practicing nav on plateau between the summit tors. You need to be able to navigate back to summit...

Re: Easy Winter Munro?

Hi, the drumochter Munro’s - eg A' Mharconaich and Geal Charn. They may be classed as boring in summer but more interesting in winter conditions. There are two others further south and also on East side of A9. Straightforward access for you too from Inverness. Perhaps Ben Wyvis, or for a slightly fu...

Re: Climate change and hill walking

I’d rather see changes in the hills to prevent climate change, rather than the effects of it. Typical examples in Scotland are the proliferation of wind turbines (not popular visually, but reducing emissions), and improvements to biodiversity in the hills - stop burning back the heather, reduce deer...

Re: beinn a bhuird from north anyone?

Thanks folks, I’ve camped up at fandourain before so used the excellent track up glen avon. It was specifically the route up once over the bridge, whether or not there was a path and what ground conditions are like. Agreed that it is a cracking route through to fandourain and less visited than other...

beinn a bhuird from north anyone?

Hi, I’m hoping for some advice on walking beinn a bhuird from the North, via the river Avon crossing. Across the bridge at the ponymans shelter. Is this a decent / achievable route please? Might camp at fandourain if I get a decent weather window.

Thanks

Re: Should I have intervened?

All fair points, thanks for replies. Perhaps the crowded summit after the morning of solitude affected my tolerance levels! You do realise you were part of the crowd? :D Indeed there's nothing as self righteous as a Scottish hillwalker Call it what you like, but I’ll take sitting on my own on a hil...

Re: Time to stop the burn

There will be many hundreds of miles of such tracks all over Scotland and Northern England Would those that advocate rewilding of land and stopping "blood sports" also insist on the removal of all tracks that were created to enable them to take place? Just wondering. Thanks for the compli...
