Wonderful

Have done this many times now and it’s still fabulous. Easy to follow signs and nothing too strenuous. The views from the top of the Motte of Mark hill are wonderful - over the bay with the Galloway hills behind. Stunning. Kippford for lunch (just check opening hours at The Anchor Inn first). Very c...

Solway Coast Views

Have lived in Dumfriesshire on and off for many years and this walk had been off the radar all this time. Glad we found it - it’s wonderful. Park in New Abbey (tea-room by Sweetheart Abbey if you’re peckish) and follow the back road past the mill pond out to the bottom of the hill. There is a car pa...

Visit to Kirkcudbright

Pretty popular walk for locals this one as it’s only really an hour and three quarters max. Was able to let the dog off for most of the way as river on one side and fence on the other = Welsh Terrier proof. Good mix of riverside paths, bridges to admire and an 1930s Art Deco style Hydro Electric pla...

Wonderful

Easiest way to find the start point is to head onto the APR road parallel with the A74(M) at the Johnstonebridge junction. Heading north, travel for about 1/2 mile and then turn right signposted for Newton/Wamphray. Drive past an old Hotel, over a narrow bridge, through and a crossroads at Newton, s...

Best walk in Lochmaben

Either park in town, a small car park on the road towards Lockerbie or a slightly larger car park behind the bowling green on the Dalton/Hightae road. Best avoid the lay-byes on the Dalton/Hightae road as a number of wood trucks use this road and you might return to your car minus a wing mirror. A p...

Great walk / Great town

Done this many times now and it’s wonderful. A very popular walk with locals and great for dog socialisation. The River Annan is fairly near its source at this point and is always crystal clear and a provides a lovely background sound on the way out. Great choice of places for food in the town.

Great find

A great small excursion from the car park with taking in the old Langholm Estate. Fab old bridge to cross and a few chances to get down on the river to cool off the dog.

10 min drive from Moffat.

Very pleasant walk either relatively quickly just around the lochans or extend along the Southern Upland Way and back. Just take care driving to the start from Moffat/Beattock as the unclassified road is particularly awful in the pot-hole department. There’s also been a wonderful ultra friendly hors...
