Re: Bridges Washed Away?

Thanks Sgurr. Nice to see a couple of pictures to put things into perspective. It's a big help. I've done Stob Ghabhar a couple of times but never went beyond the green hut so I don't really know what the river crossings are like. Given that I'll be taking a fairly large group (some of whom are even...

Bridges Washed Away?

I hope to take a fairly large group on a low level circuit from Victoria Bridge to Loch Dochard. It is reported that two wooden bridges have been washed away, one over the Allt Ghabhar (Grid 238421) and the other over the Allt Suilna Curra (Grid 234415). Does anyone know if the Bridges have been rei...

Re: Breaking news: Cumbria County Council have said no to th

It's bad enough trying to deal with our own nuclear waste, it's even worse when we are importing the damned stuff from other countries e.g.Japan. This is, I believe, what's happening!!!!

Stuc a'Chroin from Drumardoch

Since Easter I've been doing very few high level walks as I've been busy organising loads of low level stuff for a new Walking Group. However I'm now thinking of doing Stuc a'Chroin from the south and up it's SE ridge because daughter has not done the Stuc yet. The only problem is the missing bridge...

Re: Vorlich and Stuc a'Chroin in a thunderstorm

Some nice pics and an interesting report there. I'm certain that it was an exciting experience at the time but not one to be repeated. To calculate the distance a thunderstorm is away you simply count the time in seconds between flash and bang and divide this by five - the result is in miles. In Jul...

Re: Hillwalking warning over smartphones after Cairngorms re

My better half says that it takes me three days to do a hill walk - one day researching and preparing, one day on the hill and the third day playing with photographs and talking about it. The most important day is the first. Research so that you almost know the hill before venturing on to it and bei...

Re: A quick hello and your thoughts?

Hello Dazza
I've done Ben Lomond both ways. The tourist route is relatively uninteresting whilst the Ptarmigan Ridge is very interesting. Next time I do it I'll probably go up and down the Ptarmigan Ridge and leave the tourist route to the tourists.

Re: Climbers die on Everest

OK, Everest used to be a bit different but it seems that anyone with a few bob to spare can now go and join the teeming crowds and traffic jams. However, if you fancy it and can afford it and you've got nothing else to live for, why not!! For myself however I find the piece, solitude and grandeur of...

Re: Who is the oldest hill walker?

I was feeling young again until Slogger got going - I'm out of puff just reading your exploits past and future. Next time I see something on the hill whiz past me I'll know who it is. Well done mate - keep moving - you know what they say - use it or lose it!!

Re: Who is the oldest hill walker?

I knew I was very young (depite what the better half says). Fantastic - all these mature guys doing their bit. So far we have three guys in their seventies and good for Archie at 84 - brilliant!!! Is there anyone out there even more mature? I hope so. As for me - I definitely feel the flush of youth...
